*****STICKY**** General Anime Thread

MADTheOgster (Elite Donator) posted this on Sunday, 5th March 2006, 20:10

I`ve put sticky in the thread title as hopefully this will be a unifying Anime thread for all us fans rather than having the odd one floating about :) it`s not a forum, but it`s a start :)

Cowboy Bobop VS FireFly :)

i just started watching the cowboy bebop movie (i`ll be following it with the full tv series) & it`s firefly in anime :o i mean, REALY apart fro the fact it`s set on earth (at least i assume it is, only watched the first 45 mins) i don`t know which came first, firefly or bebop (tho i` assuming it`s bebop) but it`s uncanny :D it just "feels" like firefly, i wonder if joss is an anime fan ?

also just watched the Read Or Die ova`s, also excellent :)

& blood the last vampire, trying to get the tv series sequel Blood+ as we speak.

all comments & anime recommendations appreciated & welcome. i`ve spent to long away from "good" anime, but i`m rediscovering it with a vengeance :D

Just watching the fifth disc - just 6 episodes to go....getting very habit forming! Love the books/library (ie knowledge) as centre of power motif....

& blood the last vampire, trying to get the tv series sequel Blood+ as we speak.

One of the best (albeit short) anime features I`ve ever seen... :D

Your not the first to make this comparison, though I have never seen Cowboy.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Too strange this, lol. My mate came round this morning with Cowboy Bebop The Movie and said "you gotta watch this Bryan, it`s very fireflyish". Went to IMDB and saw there was a series before the movie so i`m gonna have to source that before i watch the film:D.

Bryan

Can`t see the Firefly link myself, but its a few years since I watched Cowboy Bebob. Will have to dig it out again. Play.com were selling the Bebob movie for about 6 quid recently I think.

Samurai Champloo by the same team is also excellent, nothing like Firefly however :)

Does anyone know if ITV are planning to regularly show anime ? Ghost in the Shell is repeated tonight by the way.

Rapture TV (Sky 193 I think) are showing bits of anime. Both Full Metal Alchemist and Wolf`s Rain are on Sunday nights from about 8.00 ish. Picture quality is a bit poor mind.

I watched the first 45 minutes of Cowbot Bebop (The Movie) and although it`s really good so far i`m finding it difficult to see how it`s similar to Firefly other than the whole crew dynamic thing. I`ve now got the full Bebop series and i`m gonna watch these before the film as i read that the movie sits between Session 22-23 of the series.

The same mate that got me onto Cowboy mentioned another anime movie that is aparently very similar to The Matrix. A whole world of people plugged into a computer program type thing but i can`t for the life of me remember what it was called, Mega City or something like that. Any ideas?

I`ve see a fair few Anime movies now, some i loved and some didnt really do anything for me. I seem to be preffering the more futuristic action type ones such as Ghost in the Shell 1+2, Akira, Street Fighter 2 and now Cowboy. Things like Ninja Scroll don`t seem to do anything for me though. Are there any others in this genre that i should check out?

Should note that i`m not over fussed about things like Spirited Away and Grave of Firefly`s. Although these were very beautiful films they didn`t make me want to watch them again if you know what i mean.

So folks, Sci-Fi, Futuristic and action are the key words here so recommendations please.

Bryan

Well, for sci-fi futuristic action, Appleseed is pretty hard to top.
