Musicals (show stoppers)

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 12th June 2005, 07:02

Having just observed, in the general forum, that DVD & Film is geting quieter I thought I`d better come over and make some input.

Anyone have any favourite numbers in musicals that they`ll skim through just to watch?
Watched Chicago again last night and the Six Murderesses of Cook County jail does it every time for me.
Money money from Caberet
and going even further back in time Brush up your Shakespeare in Kiss me Kate,

Bugsy I`d agree with for a couple of numbers
Grease I can`t stand but the kids love it.
Oliver, great for any scene with Ron Moody but Oliver is so sugary sweet he makes me want to throw up.

I love Bugsy Malone, saw it loads of times when it first came out; would buy the disk but I think it`s only on fullscreen (love to be corrected though). Agree with the above re Oliver, always found the boy hard to take but Fagin`s a class act. And I do like the songs in the South Park film.

Not musicals as such but:

The Producers - Springtime for Hitler
History of the World pt 1 - The Spanish Inquisition

were brilliant numbers. Ooh, I could sing them right through. :D

How the hell could I have forgotten those two.
Rocky Horror is one of my favourite films but somehow my brain doesn`t seem to file it as a musical. Tim Curry also falls into the "Best entrance in a movie" award.

Saw them both as stage shows as well. Rocky Horror in it`s original venue, in Chelsea, can`t remember the name of the theatre offhand.

Has to be West Side Story...not a weak song amongst the lot of them, but my favourite has to be `Cool`.
