Is it the Christal Films/Lions Gate Release? Have a look at the back of the case. Does it have a DTS Audio Track? What is the running time too? There seems to be two releases on R1 - 1 for Canada - The Christal Release Quebec Release (part of Lions Gate) and the R1 American Release - Lions Gate. The Lions Gate Release is the re-edited version which was originally classified NC-17, but is now shorter by only about 8 secs and is rated R. Have a look at the BBFC Website - you`ll see that they have classified both the R Rated Vesion and the NC-17 Unrated Version for R2 DVD.

Of course you cannot compare running times between the R2 and R1 editions as they are different - NTSC (R1) PAL (R2). But PAL is generally 4% Quicker. It is still unclear whether the Christal Films version which is distributed in Canada is the same as the their UNCUT theatrical version. I am still trying to find this one out. The only definitive way to discover this is to compare the Christal Films Edition with the UK UNCUT Edition. Watch this space...

Hey dude!
it does have the 6.1 DTS ES Digital Audio track, and just says Lions Gate Entertainment on the back. The case is very simular except i have only a quote from the new york observer under the "saw" title.

Okay, in that case then, it is the Cut Lions Gate R Rated Release. The Jury is still out whether the Christal Release is the same and is therefore the R Rated Cut release too.

What is the stated running time on the back please?

Yes, regrettably that is the R Rated Version and the shorter cut version. If you look at the BBFC Website link i posted earlier you`ll see that they classified both the R rated version and the NC-17 (Unrated version). The differernce is 8 Secs. So, whether the extra 8 secs is worth another £14 or so quid, is obviously up to you.

Does anyone know what is actually cut? Thinking of getting it from DVD Soon considering its only about £7 with a members card.

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

From DVD Compare:
Quote:
OVERALL: Draw
pending confirmation of specs, but your decision is likely to depend on whether you want the unrated version (R2) or the US theatrical version (R1) with more extras
NB the BBFC have confirmed the 2 UK versions as follows:
Q: Please could you confirm which DVD release (`R-rated` at 98m 56s or
`Unrated` at 99m 4s) is the same as the UK theatrical version?
A: We classified the `unrated` US version for UK cinema release. So the
longer, `unrated` version (99 mins) is the same as the cinema version.
CUTS:
R1 America - (Lion`s Gate) - No cuts - R-rated US theatrical version
R2 United Kingdom - (Entertainment In Video) - No cuts - this is the same as the US R-rated version and is shorter than the UK theatrical version
R2 United Kingdom - (Entertainment In Video (UNRATED)) - No cuts - this is the UK theatrical version (which is the same as US unrated version)
It seems that the one you have is uncut and there is no difference between it and the R2 version.
