Question regarding Asian imports

dvdloversortof (Competent) posted this on Monday, 3rd January 2005, 22:52

Hi,

I came across this earlier

link to pirated material removed by mod

It`s seasons 1-5 of Simpsons quite cheap when you convert dollars to pounds even after the shipping.

Anyway, the seller says they are the original Asian releases and are exactly the same as our releases apart from some text on the covers.

Is that right? They worth getting? Any other differences I should know about?

Cheers

given that he`s plastered "any region" all over the place i`d say they are bootlegs, and once you add the shipping it all mounts up (shipping to england is $45)

but thats not to say they won`t be any good, my "asian collectors editions" of Taken & X-Files have much nicer packaging than the "official" releases and the picture quality is just as good :) but you pays you`re money & takes you`re chances ;)

Do you really want to own pirate DVDs though?

Sure they might be cheaper and may look good but unless they are DVD9s they will have reduced quality and if any of them happen to be faulty, good luck getting a refund/replacement.

It`s been confirmed by 6 people now that they are originals.

I might give it a try, the same guy is selling a 68dvd box set of every season of XFiles for around $160 including sjipping, so only work out at about 75 quid.

to the untrained eye, they will look spot on, they will have been produced in a "proper" pressing plant & will be on"proper" dvd`s (although they may be dvd-5`s rather than dvd-9`s) so they probably wouldn`t know, but they will still almost certainly be bootlegs, if in doubt google for the original dvd`s from that region and compare the artwork ;)

and with a "fairly" big release, if it where original would almost certainly be region coded.
