DVDs & Films Forum
i was going to order this a few weeks ago, see earlier thread, after thinking about it for weeks, there are a few other hong kong films i want so thought id wait a few weeks, well i just went back there and its not there, unless i just missed it.
i did a bit of reading and there is a special edition box coming out soon for £50 i think, but why would they take the 2 disker down, or will it be re-released.
i think tartan got the rights in the states which id imagine means we might get it released here in some some form, but cdwow had the 2 disk for £13 which i thought was pretty good, anyone any ideas.
cheers.
Depends how much you want a copper box and a soundtrack CD. From what I`ve read most if not all of the extras are in Korean only. I`ve also read that the number of sets produced will be the number of pre-orders, and that no more will be made after that. There are rumours that there may be a guest commentary by Tarantino, but unless you`ve seen anything along those lines yourself, I`ll repeat that`s just a rumour.
It does look like a nice package, and the film is a masterpiece, but I won`t be getting it as I bought the 2-discer on release and already have the soundtrack too. The 2-discer (still available) is very smartly packaged itself with each disk in its own separate textured card sleeve. To be honest I don`t know what I`d do if I didn`t already have it - but I`m more than happy with the edition I have and wouldn`t buy it again for more than £50 to get a copper box and a lot of Korean-language extras. Film of the year, by the way, easily.
its the 2 disker i want, as you say trouble with these sets are the lack of subtitles for the extras, i think it was the same for hero, i didnt mind too much because they are good to see, but after that you dont normally watch them again. but £50 odd quid is not something id be prepared to pay which is why i want to get the 2 disk set, but when i just went to cdwow it wasent there. a friend uses cdwow and is going to be ordering off them soon which is why he said he would order my stuff too at the same time, do you know if it will be available from them soon.
cheers.
Sorry, can`t answer your cd-wow query. I do use them often, but pre-ordered mine form yesasia. Probably a couple of quid more, but still cheaper than 50. If that helps. :)
thanks for that, its a film i really want, i havent seen it yet but i saw sympathy for mr vengeance a while back and am looking forward to getting this.i think i will give it a few days before looking elswhere for it,
just read that harry knowles has done a commentary for that special edition.
The koreans are rather prone to releasing DVDs for a limited amount of time before releasing a new version so usually there will be a limited edition which will go out of stock and be followed after a while by a standard edition.
This may be due to the severe problem with dvd piracy they have so theres only a limited time frame in which to sell original dvds before the market is flooded with pirates making it unprofitable to produce in large numbers.
It may be that the other suppliers still have stocks whereas cd-wow now need to re order and the distributor has stopped production prior to release of the boxed set.
Try yeondvd who are currently still selling it for about $26.50 after p&p (about £14.90)
hi i ordered the 2 disc Oldboy from CD-Wow a couple of weeks ago. Having still not received it i emailed them and they are waiting for stock, which they will receive next monday.
But this might just be for existing orders they may not put it back up for sale.
Why not use Yesasia they have it for about £13.

i will wait a few days to see if cdwow put it back up, then i will start to look elsewhere.
thanks.
Sometimes when a disc is `popular` and they run out of stock, CD-WOW stop advertising them until they are back on stock again. Keep trying as it will re-appear on the site. ;)
just seen there is a review up on empireonline for the cinema releases, and i think it was mentioned on film 2004 so i may get to see it on the cinema first with a bit of luck.
