underrated films

Like the other thread, but this time what films do you love that don`t get the recognition they deserve?

I`d say The Pledge and Monster`s Ball... both great movies IMO, but no one I know has heard of them.

Expect the worst and you won`t be disappointed

Drop Dead Gorgeous - suffered from some idiotic reviews by Americans who panicked at it not being (a) 100% politically correct and (b) pigeonholeable. This is one of the best satires of recent years. I know it`s about 10 mins too long. (But they`re not the last 10 mins).

A Matter of Life and Death - most Powell and Pressburger films are underrated, but this poos on The Red Shoes IMO.

Amelie. No assessment of this film can be too high. Beautiful.

Bowfinger. Not brilliant, but certainly very funny and not deserving of the pasting it got.

24 Hour Party People. Although I think you have to have grown up with Tony Wilson reading the local news to you to completely get it.
