Matrix 1-3 on 1 disc, wahey!!!!!!

AWJ72 (Competent) posted this on Friday, 9th April 2004, 21:46

Whoever is wondering whether or not to go recordable dvd, DO IT!!!!!! I really don`t want to start another philips/mico/panny slanging match here, but all 3 matrix on 1 disc, paused between so no breaks, (still cant see the join).Longest possible quality, but still beats the snot out of vhs!!!!
That`s it really, probably not the only one to have done it as iit didnt take much looking to find a "matrix trilogy" cover to print off, but there`s been a few "whats so special about recordable dvd" threads lately, so THATS WHAT!!!!! :D :D :D

Recordable DVD means you now don`t need to exercise - who needs to get up twice to change the disc? :D

I`ve been doing much the same with some of my dvd`s that come as a series, or on two discs, for the purpose of watching on my laptop or lending them to friends/family, and as has been said, the quality might not be 100%, but still blows VHS out of the water. This raises the question - why make aDVD film on average 4 gig, when 2 gig will do?
DVD purists may scoff at even contemplating reducing the quality of a film, but remember, we put up with VHS for 20 years +, and we still go to the cinema: both of which, in comparison to DVD standards are complete tosh in the picture quality stakes.

If you think that the cinema is "complete tosh" in comparison to DVD then you`re going to the wrong cinemas... Shrinking the average film down to 2 gig is going to introduce some severe artefacts. Just because it`s slightly better than VHS doesn`t mean it`s any good.

Absolutely, couldn`t agree more there fella. A lot of effort from the authoring houses goes into ensuring we get a tip top picture and sound for our fave movies, (New Line, Fox, Columbia and Universal have now got this down to a tee), but here, you`re degrading the original work totally. You spent all that cash on a DVD set up, only to settle for an inferior picture. If you bought the box sets of tv series and you`re degrading the quality even more by squashing them onto less discs, then why didn`t you just record them off the tv instead!! ;)

I can understand people doing it with mp3`s from their fave cd`s, but with DVD you get so much more into the bargain. :)

Anyways, who the hell would want to keep watching after the first Matrix anyway?? :D

I think I`d much rather rip all the three films to the HD of my HTPC, and then play them back to back in a playlist, than lose so much quality by squeezing all three onto one 4.7gb DVDR.

Picture must be awful. :)

You say Quote:

And then say Quote:

That`s a big fat contradiction in my book.
As I said, I back up my discs for travel purposes and lending to friends and family: who cares if a 50p disc gets scratched or goes astray.
