The Butterfly Effect - anybody seen this yet?

Just watched this (a DVD-Rip of the R1) and even though it hasn`t got brilliant reviews, I was pleasantly suprised. I didn`t expect to sit and watch the whole thing through, but was left captivated as I just didn`t know what to expect next. A hugely enjoyable film, and definitely recommended to those who like the thriller/chiller genre. I`m not a fan of Ashton Kutcher, but felt his performance was first class, and even if the premise is hardly realistic, it still leaves you considering just how differently things in your life can be if you`d done things differently. I think there`s been some complaints over some of the issues dealt with in the film (paedophilia, murders, animal abuse) but it never felt like it was there to shock.

If there`s one thing that this film teaches me, is that film critics don`t know what they`re on about. ;)

Here`s the film plot, for those who are interested, copied and pasted from Rottentomatoes.com: :D
Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher) has lost track of time. From an early age, crucial moments of his life have disappeared into a black hole of forgetting, his boyhood marred by a series of terrifying events he can't remember. What remains is the ghost of memory and the broken lives around him - the lives of his childhood friends, Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson) and Tommy (William Lee Scott).

Throughout his childhood, Evan was encouraged to keep a journal, detailing the events of his day-to-day life. Now in college, Evan reads from one of his journals and finds himself thrust suddenly, inexplicably back in time. He comes to realize that the notebooks he keeps under his bed are a vehicle by which he can return to the past and reclaim his memories. But every time Evan changes something in the past, he returns to the present to find that his actions have unexpected and disastrous consequences.

BTW, has anybody else seen this? 8)

I like the bit where he gets his Mum and Dad together at the school dance and meets Doc Brown to tell him about the future and he swings down the wire from the town hall clock .....oh no..hang on wrong film... :D

Rik, out of the three I`d say see them in this order:
1.)Butterfly Effect
2.)Capturing the Friedmans
3.)Gothika

In all fairness, I`ve only watched half of Capturing the Friedmans; it was very slow so I turned it off. That`s not to say it isn`t any good, but I don`t think I was in the right frame of mind for a documentary. Gothika is also a very run of the mill thriller, its basically done by numbers, using every cliche in the book; it just didn`t do anything for me and I wouldn`t recommend it.

Also, I don`t think Butterfly Effect comes out until Wedneday?

Just watched it this afternoon and loved every second of it. Reminded me of Donnie Darko in a way. Some very disturbing bits in it tho...

SPOILER:
...like the dog in the sack burned alive and the paedo bits

Nice to see Eric Stoltz again, too.

Expect the worst and you won`t be disappointed

Tell me about it!
SPOILER:
The section of the story when he stops the blockbuster and he wakes up in real time to find his arms are gone was really shocking
