Dawn of the Dead (original) question.

enemyonpc (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 25th March 2004, 20:54

I only watched this for the first time the last night and wondered which cut of the film people prefer. From what i can gather there are 4 cuts of the film. these being:

1-3 are apparrently official cuts and the 4th is an extended malgamation of the other 3

1) The original Directors Cut
2) US theatrical which is the same as above but with some of the humour removed
3) Dario Argentos Cut which is shorter again with all the humour removed and a few alternative scenes that never made the other 2 cuts
4) Unofficial cut that has all the footage of the other 3 (apparently this is only available on VHS, although i think it will be included in the R1 3disc AB set which is due at the back end of the year)

So which have you seen and which do you prefer?

P,S i think it was the Argento version i watched last night has his name appears on one of the sountrack credits

Personally, I prefer the `original director`s cut`...but, as this is such a classic film, I will gladly watch any of the versions without complaint.

By the way, what did you think of the film? It`s been no.1 on my list for years!

I thought it was fantastic. I lived Living Dead and Dawn equally but not one over the other as they are different films IMO. I watched Day of the Dead this morning and enjoyed but not nearly as much as the other but that might have been because i watched it on a crappy old VHS. Ive got the 2 Disc Divimax of Day coming tomorrow so i can watch it properly.

I only wanted to see this before i see the New Dawn and never expected them to be that enjoyable

Although I do like Raimi`s trilogy...it ain`t a patch on Romero`s offering!

I can`t believe you lived them enemyonpc, you da man!

I`ve never seen Dawn of the Dead, and I really like my horror films. I`m seriously thinking about buying it now considering the amount of coverage the remake is getting, and the fact that its a key film in horror history. And if it`s Ascomdogs #1 film it`s gotta be good! :p

I haven`t seen the original for years but it is a classic.
I remember seeing a scene near the beginning where a zombie takes a chunk out ot someone in a house and just couldn`t believe how real it looked. Must have been about 10.
Need to see it again.. :)
