T&J`s produced by Fred Quimby are the best and i hope that the mention Vol 2 is the second half of FQwww.r2-dvd.org/article.jsp?sectionId=2&articleId=6233

I`d agree with you there. Don`t get me wrong, I quite like Chuck Jones as well, but Fred Quimby`s felt... better, and there was more heart in them. If that makes sense? :/

Just to be totally pedantic, Fred Quimby was the producer of the cartoons, and had little to do with the actual animation itself (much the same as Leon Schlesinger over at Warners at the same time). According to the IMDb, the animators at MGM loathed Quimby because he always argued about their creative decisions and then took the credit. Quimby had started out as a fight promoter, then moved into producing short subjects. The classic (forties) Tom and Jerries were actually directed by Joseph Barbera and William Hanna (yes, Hanna-Barbera as in The Flintstones and Scooby Doo).

Credit where credit`s due ;) I`m off to place an order...

Never knew that. But you know what I meant, that I prefer the Fred Quimby "labelled" shorts ;)

Cheers for the info :)

dvd.co.uk are advertising Tom & Jerry Classic Collection Vols 1 & 2 for £9.99. Looks like a mistake as they don`t seem to have any info and give the release date as 12th April 2004 when Vol 2 isn`t available until a month later.

Couldn`t agree more, Chewie. It`d be nice if there was a proper reference work of the TJs, the Tex Avery cartoons and the rest of the MGM output, like there is for the Warner Bros. cartoons, or (ptui!) Di$ney.

Elmore, Play are doing both discs for £9.99 as well. Released on 5/4 and 3/5 respectively. The shorts listed appear to be the first (and hopefully second) 24 cartoons in chronological order.

You hear that, idiot Warner Bros executive in charge of the Looney Tunes releases? Chronological order!!

Mark, dvd.co.uk appear to be selling 1 & 2 both for £9.99 together. Like I said, I think it`s a mistake.

Ah, gotcha. I noticed DVDPopcorn doing the same. If they have to honour these deals it`s going to cost them.

Personally I`ve nothing against the man, I just thought the information worth sharing. ;)

I think I`ve spotted where the confusion has arisen about the sets (at DVD.CO.UK and DVDPopcorn) - according to a T&J website, the German version consists of two discs carrying an hour and a half of programming time on each as volume 1&2, with volumes 3&4 to follow. We`re possibly getting the discs packaged differently, because the UK cover art says 3hrs instead of the "1 1/2 Stunden" on the German packaging.

I think it`s time I went to bed.
