DVD Audio discs

Just wondered if anyone owns any albums in this format. Someone told me that the audio quality is exellent because of the 5.1 mix. I am very tempted to get one of these to try them out but just wondered what others thought of them.

I`ve got three .Alice cooper`s million dollar babies and the two Queen albums anato and the game .I play them on a normal dvd player and sound great imo, compaired to the cd ones. The queen albums are great to show off your 5.1 system to your mates.
Hopeing to get elvis 1`s and rem plus tubular bells2003 when released .
They still need some big names and top albums to get people to buy over normal cd,that and where to get them plus the price.
p.s try one that u might like and give it a go .

I have:
Metallica: "Black" album - I`ll be getting dvd-audio player soon but there`s still superb sound in standard 5.1 through my Yamaha home cinema amp.
Deep Purple: Machinehead - great 5.1 sound.
Stone Temple Pilots: Core - sound is good but not great (it`s a bit harsh in places).
Elvis: Greatest Hits - good 5.1 sound but just don`t be expecting too much.

If your amp can handle DTS I`d also highly recommend Queen`s Greatest Hits Volume 1 which is so far the best sounding title I`ve heard.

The Metallica one rocks when played very loud.

REM Automatic for the people works well.

Have just got the Insane Clown Posse one today but have not had a play yet.

All the best,

Is the black album that good in 5.1 over the cd version and i`ve read that megadeth`s peace sells album is coming to dvda as well.so come bring on more metal to dvda.
p.s the queen ghits 1 is a dvdvideo but the sound in dts is fab ,so if they can do it ,why can`nt others do it too.oh iron maiden are to released their new album on cd and dvda in september as well.

If your into BIG! and i mean BIG drum sounds and wierd percussion based insrumental music try the "Blue Man Groups" disc, possibly only available from the USA, its the most stunning disc ive ever heard to show off a surround system and that includes all the big blockbuster type movies.
If you remember a few years ago there was a microsoft ad with three guys with blue faces playing music with a giant piece of pipe with drum skin over one end. This is the same group.
Try http://www.blueman.com/

You seem to be playing these discs on `normal` dvd players/amps yeah?
When do you NEED a player that can play DVD-Audio discs? Is the sound encoded differently and won`t play? Does it tell you on the cover?

To get DVD-A you need a DVD-A player. But if it has a 5.1 DD/DTS mix you can play it on any DVD player.

To drunk to go in to detail. If I remember I will give it a go tomorrow.

All the best dude,
