The Matrix Reloaded and Warner the money grabbing bastards

Chris Gould (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 16th July 2003, 14:26

Well, I just got off of the phone with Warner UK to try and clear up what I thought was obviously a mistake on their UK R2 PR for Reloaded. Unfortunately I have been informed that it is not a mistake, and that the official RRP is £26.99!!! What freaking planet are they living on???

Would anyone at Reviewer care to question them further as to why they feel this is a reasonable price for, let`s face it, a pretty average looking DVD package? I would do it myself, but I don`t work for a website anymore ;)

Come on, you never pay that price. Most DVD`s have a RRP of £24.99 or £19.99.

You`ll still be able to get it at a reasonable price as long as you don`t go to rip-off merchants such as HMV.

Now there`s one picture I`ll wait for the bargain bins. Warner are bound to overstock, and two months down the line there`ll be a price crash. I predict it`ll be going for £7.99 by January.

Very true, but I`m weak and can`t wait that long ;-)

Plus, Revolutions is out in the cinema in November, so I`ll need to brush up ;-)

*I* never pay that price, but there are plenty of people who don`t know about online purchasing, or don`t have access to it, and they will be paying the RRP. Surely you can`t agree that Warner`s decision to price this film so highly is right? They know it`s going to be a popular title, so they, cynically, bump the price up.

At the end of the day studios want us to buy R2 DVDs, but with ridiculous RRPs like this they`re simply taking the p***. How can they expect to curtail the importation of discs from other regions when they artificial inflate prices and offer substandard discs?

Personally, I`ll be holding off until the reloaded/revisited boxset comes out. I`m afraid Reloaded wasn`t enough of a film on it`s own merits to warrant money flying from my wallet

Scandalous profiteering which should be boycotted by ALL, regardless of how much you want to see the film/own the DVD.

Region 1 edition is available pre-order from Future Entertainment for £14.99, I wonder which version I have gone for...

Well, I`ll make my mind up in late September. Probably be R4 for me anyway.

C`mon though, be reasonable, Warner are a small studio - who will make little to no profit from The Matrix - so cut them some slack. ;-)

There was confirmation of a 2-disc R1 SE of the original film a few months back, but then it got canned...is it likely that that spec will be added to this rumoured boxset? And if so, what are the likelihood of commentaries and DTS, plus some more bloody features?

I`ll wait for them to release a trilogy boxset.
