Page 1 of BUFFY etc DVD REVIEWERS

Why do some reviewers on this site insist on talking crap - Sue Davies (Once More, With Feeling) and Dicanio (Buffy Season 4), for instance. Both say in their reviews thatBuffy TVS is shot on video - bollocks! It`s on film and has been since day one.
And in Rik Booth`s "Some Mothers Do `Ave Em" reviews - " widescreen would have been nice". How can you present a program in widescreen that was shot on 4:3???
Why not leave the technical aspects of the dvd`s to people who know what they`re talking about.

I love these guys who come on here and instantly start slagging people off...but, to be nice and polite, I will answer.
When I put "widescreen would have been nice" I meant that in an ideal world it would have been shot in widescreen in the first place. I did not mean that I wished it had been remastered to 16:9.

OK I made a mistake. I assumed that tv programs are shot on video. That does not however mean that I talk crap. I am not a professional reviewer, I write them for fun and in hope that they may help other people decide. I have written quite a few reviews for the site and no one else seems to think that I talk crap in them. It doesnt matter even if they do because its my review and its nothing to do with you. I will continue "talking crap" as much as I want.

If I may stick my oar in, the visitors` reviews option is open to anybody who cares to post a review. Might I suggest a "put your money where your mouth is" approach would be considerably more constructive than venting your spleen at people who are *all* just doing this for a love of the medium.

well i decided to have a go at reviewing a few of the DVD`s I own so I hope you enjoy them. Any critiscisms would be kind of welcome, I reckon I could take them
touched a nerve, did I?
everyone`s entitled to their opinion - including me
and in my opinion dicanio and mark oates can both go and f**k themselves (or each other, which sounds more likely)
So Rob, how old are we? A pre-teen off in a huff when he realises that his negative and unconstructive comments have been shot down with legitimate responses?

Cartoonjonah - well, you`ve got the hang of reviewing these things, haven`t you? Clear, concise, obviously a personal opinion. What can be better? We contributors have to waffle a bit more, of course but that`s only so`s RJ will let us hang on to the discs ;o)
One problem we have that people might not be aware of is most discs come to us direct from the PR companies the studios hire to publicise them. That means most times all we get is a test disc from the mastering plant in a plain CD case, and we have to check the disc characteristics "blind". This means running the disc a number of times and checking audio tracks, exploring every bit of the menu, occasionally having to make estimates of aspect ratios and stuff like that. Things inevitably slip through and people call us on it. But usually they`re more polite.
