Playing DVDs on my PC

PN (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 9th January 2001, 18:41

I have an OEM Aopen DVD drive, so no software came with it.

If I buy "DVD" discs on PC magazines it can read all the files. It can also read the file names on DVD discs, (.bup, .ifo, .vob), but I haven`t got any software that will play them.

What do I need to do to play the DVDs on my PC? In fairly simple terms please.

Get one from here (PowerDVD or WinDVD are recommended)

You got Windows ME?(yes, I know, noone should be promoting Microsoft and Bill Gates) If you look closely, there`s a built in software player, Windows DVD Player. Good to take snapshots aswell.

No I haven`t got Windows ME (I have 98), but I followed the Digital-digest link and downloaded a demo of Powerdvd 3.0. It looks good, but then again I cannot compare it with my DVD player which hasn`t arrived yet :-(

Here`s an update to the link I was given earlier in this thread.
