I hate to burst bubbles or rain on parades, but I`m almost certain MGM *aren`t* going to release the 1969 epic "Battle Of Britain" any time soon, unless they`re planning a surprise release - which I`d doubt. They have a release of a number of war pictures lined up in both R1 and R2 during May, but BOB isn`t one of those coming out in R2.
The movie *will* be out in R1 on 20/05/03, and according to our good friends at Play will include a trailer and an anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1 transfer, for £9.99 all in.
A word of caution - there are at least six titles available on DVD with the title "Battle Of Britain" in R2, and they`re all cheap documentaries. Check your orders just in case.

Thanks for the info - £9.99 best price now!
Glaring error in my previous post, the 1 should have been a 2.

I remember going to the cinema to see this when I was a schoolkid, and the worst memory of it was the model planes shooting all over the sky, you could even see the wires, the pyrotecntics were a few `bangers` going off, drastic!!!!
In other words the non-special effects were crap!!!!!!!!!!
Just an unbiased opinion of the film. oh, I think michal caine was in it?
I thought they might have re-encoded the sound for 5.1 at least....
And most of the aircraft flying are real using spanish air force pilots if i remember correctly. The only let down for me was the destroyed aircraft on the ground, you can see there wooden mockups.
Shame they didn`t have much in the way of CGI in the 60`s

I have fond(?) memories of "Battle Of Britain" as one of my real formative years pictures. I`d have been five or six when Mum took me to see the movie at the Odeon. I was freaked out by the Junkers gunner getting his eyes shot out, but since then I`ve often returned to the movie to marvel at the quality of the effects work. Okay, the process stuff was pretty dodgy but then any process work done in the UK was - look at the Bond movies or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (all blood relations of BoB). Remember an awful lot of the aerial stuff was achieved with radio controlled models.
CGI wouldn`t have done any better for the physical effects of the planes on the ground - if anything it would have looked even more fake. Look at Pearl Harbour and they threw money at their CGI budget.

Now Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, going up against an ME-109 would have been interesting...Chitty would have taken them no bother.
What the bloody hell is chitty chitty bang bang?
:)
I won`t dignify that with an answer! ;o) Honestly, you`ll be asking who the Beatles were next!
