Region 4 Sites???

kiff (Competent) posted this on Monday, 6th January 2003, 02:08

As mentioned in a post below, the pound is very srong against the Australian dollar, so what are the best sites for A price and B speed?

Any info greatfully appreciated as I have only ever gone for region 1 or 2.

Is there any difference in quality or features, plus do they come out earlier or later than region 1/2?

Reliable region 4 sites I`ve used: EzyDVD and Devoted DVD. Though for my money, EzyDVD is the best R4 retailer I`ve ever dealt with. Prompt, speedy, customs friendly and very good customer service.

Quality wise, it`s PAL and the same as you would get here. Some of the discs are dual encoded for R2/R4, some aren`t and are only R4. Features wise these days R4 discs tend to carry the same level of features as R2, but check out regional comparison sites such as DVD Compare: http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/

For more info on a specific region 4 disc you can always point your browser to MichaelDVD: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/

R4 release schedules vary to R1/R2. Some titles come out sooner than R2 and some later. There`s very little that comes out ahead of R1 unless it`s domestic Aussie stuff.

Hope this helps!

Buying from Aussie sites do you have to generally do so in bulk to make it worthwhile (in terms of obtaining free postage) or if you buy one at a time is the cost so insignificant as to be irrelevant ?

Also, are they sent `par avion` as in by general overseas post or do they use a courier format e.g. Fedex ?

Cheers

I would disagree with the above, if you buy more than 2 then EzyDVD make you have a more expensive post to guarantee they will arrive safely and besides all that you could pay customs charges + end up buying stuff you don`t really want that much. You can pick up some titles for as cheap as £5 including the postage, so a big difference like that is not irrelevant to me. The ones i`ve tried are EzyDVD, DVDcrave and DeVoteD and they all came up trumps.
