It`s a fact!!,Lord Of The Rings DTS is a joke. Discuss...

Is it just me or does the dts track seem to be a little noisy and lacking focus - for example during the bridge of kaza-doom sequence? And also seems to be light on bass when Sauron explodes?

Ive just got a 5.1 setup, but im totally convinced that the Dolby EX track seems more focussed and has tighter bass! Although I will agree that the dts is slightly wider (not by much though)...

So did they screw up or is the Dolby just utterly wicked!?!

I`m not an expert on DTS but I think it generally is a little more high end than DD. I watched it with the DTS track yesterday and didn`t notice anything. Maybe I`m an undemander!

I too thought that the DTS track was, well, s*** compared to the Dolby track. I like DTS, but I like to listen to the best track and the Dolby track is a mile better.

Well, let`s face it - I bet they mixed it originally for DD EX, and the DTS isn`t a "ground up" mix, more of a reformat for marketing reasons.

Has everyone who commented here got Region 2?

No...I have the Region 1 USA Version, but I have heard of problems with the Region 2 soundtrack due to the conversion from NTSC to PAL.

I`ve got the R2. The DD packs more boom than the DTS, which sounds quieter for some reason!

Hey y`all!

Indeed, the Dolby track is utterly amazing, and the poor DTS ES Discrete 6.1 mix suffers badly. How emabarrasing....

I have had this set for over 2 weeks now and after some extensive testing both on my system and all of my friends`, (which vary wildly, Kef Eggs, Acoustic Energy Aego cubes, Mission Flat Panels, and of course `The Natural Enema` - a very well paid mate who has some Tag Mclaren gear!Ground shaking!), and the DTS mix is actually very lame.

I think RichardH has hit the nail on the head here, this has just been dumped into a dts encoder and not much has been done with it, unlike the excellent remixed and remastered `near field` mixes found on Rush Hour 2, Goldmember and Se7en to name a few from New Line. And yes, it applies to the R1 and R2 discs.

The Dolby EX track just rocks all the way, BIG dynamic power, excellent 360 degree sound field, amazing steering effects, and massive MASSIVE bass! A real reference track and one that proves my argument about DTS tracks not being all they`re cracked up to be :-)
