Lord of the Rings: 4 Disc Extended Cut - Running Time.

I`ve just ordered a R1 copy of this and the running time is approx 208mins. However, been to the bbfc and they have passed the R2 cut at 218 mins. Now as R1 runs slower than R2, then R1 should be about 230 odd mins if its the same cut (ish). Why the discrepancy? I truely hope R2 are not getting an extended-extended cut. I`ve ordered R1 so that the battle at Amon Hen won`t be cut (the bit where Aragorn lops off the Uruk-Hai`s head) which was cut appalingly in British Cinemas.

I think there is some sort of discrepancy with the running time of the Extended LOTR which is showing on the BBFC website as the cut we will be getting is exactly the same as the American one. As for the cut in the battle at Amon Hen would this not have been on the US print as well as I thought the film had been passed as a PG (PG-13 in US) with no cuts made but with a warning of Intense Battle Scenes.

I`m still a bit confused by the official description that`s been issued.
It states that the new extended cut of the movie`s on disc 1 and 2.
Does that mean that the extra scenes will be seperate from the film?

No, they are integrated in to the movie, but because of its length, the film will be split over 2 discs (yes - intermission time). All the extra features are on discs 3 & 4.

I think I know why the EC is so much longer. If it isn`t a mistake on the BBFC website. Before LOTR came out in the cinema I read reports about New Line giving the fans of the book the possibility to have their names in the credits as Tolkien/LOTR fans. They had to pay a few quid(actually a lot) and if those names are in the credits for the EC then that will make the film-credits longer.
