Cheap Trip To London!!

MicoMan (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 9th September 2007, 08:08

Short story:

http://www.easyhotel.com/ - 1 night for 2 in hotel - £35

http://www.megabus.com/uk/ - 2 return train tickets to London - £12.50

Long story:

My girlfriend and I have not been to London for a few years so with my holiday coming up in October and not being able to afford a trip abroad, I thought it would nice.

I had seen the Easy hotels before which are very basic with the price we paid having no window ( £5 extra) but for just a night its still sounds good value.

I also had a look at normal train fares and the cheapest was a single return of £33!!
Megabus/Train has been going a while with fares from £1 one way. I had seen the ads but when I looked for a day return I got about 3 hours in london!!
I know they dont do fares from everywhere but check the site and see if they do from where you live.

I know we will need to get travel cards in london. Does anyone know how much they will be and the best options for me if we are traveling around london on 2 days. The train calls in at Waterloo and we stay in the hotel at Earls court if that helps. I was also thinking of just going staight to Waterloo on the next morning and then just look around there until our train at about 1pm

Now got to find something to do when we are there!!

Hey MicoMan,

I`d suggest that you go online and apply for an Oyster card. Even if it`s only for a couple of days, it`ll work out a lot cheaper than buying travel cards. And you can then hope on and off of buses and tubes without worrying about buying tickets.

Oh, and I`d highly reccomend the Tate Modern on the South Bank. It`s fabulous (and awful, depending on which gallery you`re in and your personal tastes) and it`s free!

Have good time.

J.

Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding the "Oyster" card, you have to pay £3 deposit, would I get this refunded at Waterloo before we travel home? how much credit would you recommend I put on? I assume any unused I would get back.

Travel plans - we arrive at Waterloo at about 11.30
I want to check in the hotel at Earls Court at 3pm to drop off ours bags
Any ideas what to do between these times on the route or near?
Tate sounds good, is that where the moving bridge is?
Done the wheel, imax and Natural History before but what about Madame Tussauds? - Is it worth it?

Any mores ideas?

How about the Aquarium, which is near Waterloo Stn, or Westminster or river boat trip?

Could take walk/buses slowly to Earls Court

If you like history, nip down to the Imperial War Museum.
Expect to spend more than a couple of hours though as you could spend an entire day in the Holocaust exhibition alone.

Pretty chilling ot look at a Nazi and an SS uniform and think they were real and what they had probably "seen"

Also incredible to see how similar the slang talk between Jewish Prisoners is surprisingly similar to what you`d think up yourself....even without the translation to English.

Tower of London is meant to be good too but never gone.

Oh, and wish I coulda got a return ticket to London for £33 last night coming home tomorrow....

Yep, Bruv-in-Law had a spare ticket for tonight in Paris and all I had to do was get there....but cheapest I could find was £140 to London and still had to do Eurostar....flying cheapest was £340 return :(
Guess I`ll just have to ring Sky and get SkySports on lol.
Oh, and the science museum is pretty good too, and usually have special things on now n again....Game On was good with allt he Retro arcade games :)

Hi, I did the following if anyone is interested in doing this for a cheap Stag do:-

Megabus to London from Cardiff
(plus 5 spare tickets for a later time, incase people arrived too late)
Travelodge triple room £26 per room per night (2 days) booked Oct 2006 for July 2007
Breakfast (2 days)
Thames RIB (speedboat)
Spy School
Partybus + club
Megabus to Cardiff from London
(plus 5 spare tickets for a later time, incase people were too hungover or wanted to stay to shop)

20 people at £150 each. Which also paid for the Stag and his costume (ebay)

Thats cheap!!
Advertised room rate at hotel was £80 per night, which impressed everyone.
