Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
Currys Have an offer at the moment for the JBL ESC-333 Dolby Digital system for £149.97.
It`s the one with everything built in a hulking great sub-woofer and 5 satelites. Seem to remember it being £300 recently, think the price has come down as the 340 is out with DTS but it still seems like a good buy!
I have bought one and it is very good after looking around I have seen a original price of £550 !!!!!!
RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
Am I right in presuming this system will output DTS if I use it with my Wharfedale 750s which has a DTS decoder??
RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
Are you 100% sure your player has actually got a DTS decoder ? I thought the Wharfey 750s were decoderless, but could output a dts signal ?
If that`s not the case, and the 750S has a decoder, and thus 6 audio outputs, and the JBL six matching audio inputs, then you should be in business, matey !
RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
After reading this last night, i phoned round my local Currys (10min b4 closeing), and found 1 in Preston :)
just bought it, and it`s GREAT! easy to set up, and great sound.
But don`t bother asking Dixons to price match, they wont!! my neighbour called them and there it`s £200 when told i bought it for £150ish, he was told "no we wont match that" so much for there "we wont be beaten on price"
So if you can find one, buy it, this time last year it was £550!

Thanks, this seems just what I was after! Seriously `budget` and without another box to cram under the telly.
They only had ex-display models in Oxfordshire but I found a new one in Southampton, where my brother lives. So I got him to `pick one up` and apparently it was very heavy!!

I`ll post again when I`ve had a play with it.

RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
My local Dixons in Doncaster recently told me that they no longer do a price match on anything!! - i assumed this was a country-wide policy now.
While on the subject of DIxons, i noticed the other day, a full page `sale` advert in the Daily Mirror, which amongst other things, proclaimed a sale price on Sony Playstation 2`s of £199 - when we all know that is now the normal price everywhere. Also noticed a billboard outside the shop on the same day, saying "hurry while stocks last" - as if this price was a limited offer - WHAT A BUNCH OF DECEIVING TWISTERS".

I don`t think you`ll find many on here that`ll disagree with you, Joe.
The crazy thing is, both Currys and Dixons are part of Dixons Stores Retail Group Ltd, so it seems mad that one trading arm is charging such a silly price (the expensive one, I mean).
Dixons, so-called "electrical" retailers, my arse
And don`t even get us started on PC World (yeah - they`re part of DSRG too)... ;-)

Do Currys have an online store where you could purchase this from.
RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.
In-store only.

Ask for the manager if a member of staff refuses to price match. Any item being sold in a Currys,Dixons or PC World which is sold locally at a better price and is in stock at that competitor will be price matched. That is the price promise from Dixons Stores Group.
