tbh, the acer does not realy compare with the lidl laptop, for a start i wouldn`t touch a celeron with a bargpole, never mind the fact the lidl one comes with an analogue & digital tv tuner....

Can`t find the £499 one only the £699 :/ wonder if its according to location/postcode. Also are the Tesco ones only instore?

Mate was going to look at PC world laptops, but I suggested checking out DVDR first :) So I`ll send him this link. Personally don`t like pcworld due to bad customer services etc when things go wrong.

Cheers Niteowl

p.s. just saw these on Woolies site but don`t know if they`re any good

http://www.woolworths.co.uk/ww_p2/promotions/index.jhtml?fid=feat5550001

or thsi medion reduced from £799 to £329, http://www.woolworths.co.uk/ww_p2/product/index.jhtml?pid=50616022

One thing to be aware of on these cheap (but perfectly good) laptops is that the majority of them have intel 900 or 950 integrated graphics cards.

Now these are SUPPOSED to work with the Aero Skin of windows vista, but word from the beta testers is that they don`t. So if you want to run vista at any point in the future, with all its Mac-style transparencies, 3d windows and other whizzy bits then you`ll probably need a laptop with at least an ATI Radeon integrated graphics card (X200M or better).

Still, for XP they are fine, and you can always run Vista in XP mode.

PS/ There is a £449 Advent Laptop at pc world that looks quite nice.. but i haven`t looked into it in detail.
