£10 printer back at Dell - Not Any More

The G Man (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 16th March 2006, 08:29

Yes , I know they come with the crappy (very) low capacity trial cartridges , but I find it is always useful to keep one of these in the garage for when the ink runs out on a Sunday afternoon and the kids want to print off their homework :¦ (it doesn`t have to be this specific , there are a multitude of other uses aswell ;) ).
Anyhow , here it is . Deselect the USB cable (if you need one , go to Poundland) and update the price to £9.95 delivered. Offer open till 22/03/06.

Update - this isn`t the same printer as before (which was the Dell 720). The Dell 725 works on a single cartridge and the spec makes no mention of a `trial` cartridge , so it is hopefully the proper job.
The printer itself looks like it is a modified version of this Lexmark , £39.99 in Argos but (last time I looked) £24.99 at Dixons , PC World and Currys.

Further Update - It looks like there is no longer free delivery on this printer , so the total price including delivery is now £22 :( not such a bargain after all.

"keep one of these in the garage"

Good idea, but don`t open or install the ink cartridges until you need them. Once the ink dries in the nozzles, you`ll have to replace them, which would rather defeat the object!

Read the original post. You have to remove the USB Cable by de-selecting it in the `customise your order` section. To be fair to Dell they actually have this instruction on the page.

The normal practise with Dell is that they quote a keen price and then try to bump up the price by including extras, which you have to manually remove in order to get the advertised price. With PCs they normally add extended service, here they add an extortionately priced cable.

I have done tht, but it charges me £9.95 for the printer then the postage charge on top f this. How do I get rid of the postage charge?

It seems (from another forum) that the price has now gone up - £22 delivered.

I ordered one of these printers earlier this morning and it was free delivery - total price £9.95. When you opened up the page it said `Now From £23` before you deselect the USB cable.
It now says `Now From £35` , so Dell must have realised it shouldn`t be free delivery :(
I haven`t had the order confirmation yet , so I may be unlucky.
C`est La Vie - on to the next bargain :)
P.S. Dell have some cracking PC offers at the moment (P4 with 19" TFT for £345 for example) - well worth a look if you are in the market for a new PC (and you can get a £10 printer aswell).

Truly Bizarre :/
The offer on this printer (which was supposed to be valid until 22/03/06) has changed for the second time today !
It has gone from being £9.95 with free delivery
to
£9.95 plus delivery - total £23
to
`Half Price` plus delivery - total £35 !!

Also , the P4 with 19" TFT which I saw this morning at £345 now appears to be £449.
Dell are having one of those days :o
