How about a visit to the local market?

Nads (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 29th August 2001, 05:30

I would recommend anyone looking for reasonably new-ish and old releases to check out their local market.

The DVDs and cases at Leicester market seem to be very good and I`ve had no problems witht the 3-4 sellers there.

Prices are £5 for the "never heard of films", £8 or £10 for the newer ones and £12 for the big releaeses )though few are priced at 12) which I think are well priced.

Today I got Gladiator £12 (14 new)
Queer as folk 2 disc (£10) )(15 ish play247 - £17?)
Good Will Hunting £10 £about 12)

There where loads of titles available from anna and the king (12) to Ransom (10) to Bridge\River Kwai (10) so plenty of variety.
And yes there is the obligotary dodgy guy trying to sell Planet of the Apes VCDs for 6 pound.

Ok you can get them brand new but how long will delivery take.

Yeah leather lane market in London is the same, although not quite as cheap. New release two disc sets are around £15.99 and singles are £12.99 - all original stuff. For those who are interested it is on Monday to Friday only and nearest tube is Farringdon.
Worth a look?

And the best thing is, you can pick up your tomatoes and a fresh halibut while your at it.

Seriously, this "going down the shops" thing might well take on, flushing the whole internet purchase cr*p down the bog.

Talking of `going down the shops`, anyone living in Ilford, Essex should check out the Newsagents on Cranbrook road opposite Blockbusters.

They have a fair range of DVDs old and new releases - many at below high street prices e.g. Toy Story 2 was £14.99 - most shops are still charging £20+ for this.

They even have some 2nd hand stuff - spotted X-Files season 2 for £60.

Also look in HMV on the high street they got some decent films at 2 for 20 notes, and Ainleys also got some 5 pound wonders in to.

Alright Bear,
I go on any weekday really but not thursday as the good dvd seller isn`t there. best are monday, tuesday and friday. I`ve spotted four sellers, the one with the best prices is <wierd incoming directions follow> the one virtually across from the superdrugs adjacent to the market. He`s a sound bloke and his dvds are almost mint condition (if you understand what I mean!).

I got Elephant Man and Exorcist at HMV, the guy there said that there is going to be a BOGOF free this week, but tuesday came and no new offer there:/

Re: Leather Lane

You can also get to it from Blackfriars (bit of a walk) and Chancery Lane (very close). DVDs weren`t invented when I worked around that area though, so it was usually blokes flogging pirate VHS and CDs from suitcases. A fun place for a wander in your lunch break though....
