Walkers crisps Ipod giveaway (every 5 mins)

way2good (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 8th September 2005, 13:19

Hello people,

As a major reader on the KitKash forum, I thought I`d start another for September on the Walkers Crisps giveaway. (Cheers 49%er)

Basically buy a packet of crisps and get the code out of the packet. You can then either text it to 82220 or submit it online at www.winwithwalkers.com. For each 5 minutes of each day in september, a winner is picked at random and gets a 4GB Ipod mini.

After looking at the source code for the stats page, you could see that the stats were being served from a seperate site ie http://81.29.80.207/draw_entry_counts.xml
For the first few days you could see the raw stats for yourself, but they have put a restriction on it now, so they are no longer visible. The average submissions were about 90-100 thousand for each five minute interval, so chances of winning are quite low.

Saying that there have been a lucky few who have won twice, and one lucky so-and-so (Jackie Aldred, Lancashire) who has won four times. No luck for me yet, but I`ve only had about 6 packets to date. Not much chance buying more after the weight increase from all those KitKats.

Good luck people.

Hmmm, what`s the bet that she works somewhere that either makes, distributes or sells the crisps and has just looked on the bags for all the codes to put into the websites.

Or are the codes secure inside the packet?

In which case, I`ll shut up. :)

J.

Hehe!! just cracked the source of the data.
Figures were between 60K and 300K for a draw, depending on the time of day. But these have now increased to between 100K and 400K.

Highest was so far was today at 13:15 with 575,207entries, but nothing lower than 100,000 since the 5th at 4:25 AM

Best times seem to be between midnight and 9AM.

Would seem that Walkers are making a fair amount of money out of this promotion then :)

S*d that then - the kids have been saving the packets up so dad can do a 03:00 stint one night. Not much point by the looks of it.

I`m finding these figures a bit sky high :/

I did an autosum in excel on the .xml page you linked to and apparently the total entries for the last week have been:-

01-Sep 94526888
02-Sep 88594432
03-Sep 85127196
04-Sep 93688134
05-Sep 92362128
06-Sep 94737572
07-Sep 95692166

that`s almost 100 million entries a day!! that can`t be right. How many packs of crisps must they be selling to get that many entries? bearing in mind that most people won`t bother entering and that there`s probably a lot of non-promo stock on shelves still.

so we`re munching somehting like 2 packs a day EACH? Could it be that these figures are not anything to do with the actual quantity of entries? But then what could they be?
