RE: In car kenwood mp3/wma cd player @ £66.59
I bought the one from Maplin for £59.99 a couple of weeks ago. Quality/build was average and so I took it back to them today, got a refund and bought the Kenwood from Argos.
For £6.00 more the difference is unbelievable, feels and looks like a much better unit. Quite powerful too with the built in Mosfet amp. If anyone bought the Maplin unit (Branded as Shark), take it back if you can and get this.
Well pleased, and sincere thanks to OP :)
Cheers,
Rich

RichTea have you fitted the Kenwood yet? If so how does the sound compare the the Shark? Also do you know if it has an Aux in for external devices? Cheers

I have thought of buying a player for my car but am curoius about something that you may be able to answer for me.
Normal CD Players remeber where they were within a track ie 3m02 on track 7. Do MP3 players work the same way? Or do they default to the beginning of the track? Thats not a problem if you are just listening to song but I listen to audio books, radio shows etc.
Thanks in advance

That`s a good question. My Archos handheld MP3 player allows you to set a bookmark and IIRC a CD-MP3 player I had did this automatically if you set it to "resume". I think you can download the Kenwood manual although I don`t think manuals always tell you all the capabilites of the device.

An interesting alternative is the H&B CA5555 which a lot of features most notably a "MP3 USB interface" and a "MP3 SD/MMC Card reader" which means you can transfer MP3 files to a standard SD card or a USB flash drive and plug it into your car audio
You can get it for around £80 delivered e.g.from Savastore (I think you can get it a bit cheaper from Pixmania).
For around £13 more you get more facilities than the Kenwood but the big question for me is the sound quality (one of the user reviews says the sound is excellent but excellent compared to what?)
MP3/FM Car Audio; Audio CD / Audio CD-R/RW; MP3 CD-R/RW; MP3 USB interface (1.1 & 2.0 compatible); MP3 SD/MMC Card reader; Power Output 4x45W; RDS (Radio Data System); TA/TP (Traffic Program); EON (Enhanced Other Networks); PTY (Program Type); AMS (Auto Memory Store); MP3 - ID3 Tag Display; MP3 track search; 4 DSP Equalizer Modes; Loudness; Anti-Theft flip-down detachable panel; Multi Color VFD Display; Subwoofer Line Out; Amplifier Line-Out x4; RCA Line-In x2; Telephone Mute.

Rehan,
yes they do resume at the point you left the track. I had a Kenwood MP3 player before (now onto a JVC one) and when you switch off engine, and back on again it resumes in the same place it left. Its no different froom playing a CD in a car, except maybe a slight lag whilst the decoder reads the disc (as its compressed).
