Acer AL1714M - S 17" TFT monitor
Response time .14ms
Pixel resolution 1.3 million
Contrast range 350 colourtones
Is this any good then? I was thinking of getting a TFT and this is a great price for 17". I don`t play any games on my PC, just do stuff with web pages/images (but not in incredible detail) and browse the net
www.uquality.co.uk - A comedy website that is funny. Because I wrote it.
I have one here and for £140 it is a good buy, I paid £153 ( Was £170 but I had a 10 % off coupon ) for mine at Argos when Comet had them at £150 as I was able to return it to Argos for a full refund within 28 days if it had any dead pixels while Comet were not so accommodating on this and it was also listed as having a 3 year warranty and Comet told me theirs was only 1 year.
I generally only use mine for internet browsing , video and photo editing and DVD burning and it is great for all that.
I have tried watching a sport DVD on it and although it boasts a 14 ms response time there was little bit of picture lag evident.

It hasn`t got DVI input. For about £155 (I think), the Relisys tl795ru from Savastore is much better. It is cheaper than many TFT screens without DVI. Compared to most budget 17 inch TFTs, it has much smoother greyscale (no noticeable banding) and more accurate colour reproduction.
CusoDave,
The pixel resolution of 1.3 million is pretty standard across all 17 inch TFT screens. As for 350 colortones, I think you mean 350:1 contrast.
The one you mention in Savastore is £168.88 delivered which is almost £30 more
Is it worth paying the extra for a DVI input if you have no need for that connection ?
