FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
If like me, you live in an area where freeview ain`t available..... you have 2 choices.... no digital or SKY..... (ok 3 if you include PC gimpternet stuff)....
And if like me, you find that SKY is pants....... you`ll have looked for a freeview card for your Sky box.....
But... these have long since gone... (thanks BBC)....
But fear not.... Sky now have FREESAT..... for a small fee of £150 you get install, box and freesat card.... Hurrah!!....
Hang on.. what about us punters who already have a Sky box... well fear not... a lot less advertised.... in fact almost silent... is the fact that you can buy the Freesat viewing card from Sky for £20.....
08706 061111..... option 1.... ask for the card only and hear their voices sigh.....
A quick scout around the net for Freesat will give you more info.....
RE: FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
My Sky subscription ran out in December and I haven`t renewed it since deiciding it`s a rip-off. Anyhoo...
I can still receive all the Freesat channels with my old Sky card - is this the norm or will these become unavailable to me in the near future? Would a Freesat card offer me anything that my expired Sky card doesn`t?

Have quick scout round the internet... I think.. and I may be wrong... that the Sky cards can take up to 3 months to become inactive... and that sky scramble some channels that the Freesat cards will allow....
I may be totally wrong here... but one off £20 is better than the £20 a month for the rubbish I`m getting....
RE: FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
My contract with Sky ran out 2 years ago - I still get all the free channels. Every christmas they offer me 3 months half price rental which I take up and then cancel after the 3 months! They even sent me a new card - although I don`t subscribe!!!
RE: FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
If you have a version 2 sky card (dark blue with yellow house) it supposedly will get ALL of the same channels as a "freesat from Sky" card. If you have no card you won`t get ITV1, CH4 or CH5 - that`s the only difference
RE: FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
Great - I have version 2 card.
It seems to me the same setup could be had for a lot less than the £150 sky are offerering it at. I`m sure you could pick up a second hand sky box and dish for around £50 and bolt it on to your wall yourself.
I re-installed my sky dish last year when I moved house and it was pretty straight forward - drill 4 holes in wall, attatch dish, set angle to 26(?) degrees and point the damn thing in the same direction as everyone elses dish! 1 minor adjustment later and I have about 80% on my signal strength and quality bars, the picture is great apart from during the absolute worst weather.
I really wasn`t happy that Sky wanted to charge me £60 to re-install my equipment so I could continue to pay them £35/month. To be honest I was a bit doubtful that it would work without more accurate positioning using specialist equipment but was pleasantly suprised when it did. Took me about half an hour.

Same here, my sub just ran over a year when the signal went on my dish and sky wanted to charge 60 come out and fix it, I notice that the freesat thing also does some of the channels I subscribed to sky to get, bi bi sky, hello Freesat...
RE: FREESAT - Freeview For Sky Boxes
Just wondering do you get Skyone or E4 on Free Sat?
