Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op

After a couple of months of looking for a cheap multiregion TV/DVD unit (see thread in the Hardware forum) I finally found what I was looking for last night. My local Co-Op are selling a Cello 14" TV/DVD combi unit for £79.99 and it is multiregion compatible out of the box (tested it with a Regino 1 disc last night - no problems).

If you`re interested in one of these then you do need to watch out - there are two Cello models which are identically priced. The one with only a couple of buttons on the front is *not* mulitregion compatible (I bought one and had to take it back) - the multiregion ones look a bit less elegant (the DVD tray is bigger and more squared off, there are about 7 or 8 buttons on the front of the unit) but for £80 I`m happy enough!

Regards,

Derek.

I think this is the same one sold in Sainsburys for £89.99. I bought one for my mum just before Xmas but took it back last week as it smelled funny (plastic smell) and MORE importantly, Tesco Extra stores do the same unit under the name of Inktomi (or Hiktomi or something like that) for ONLY £69.99 which is dead cheap. So I bought that one instead and saved £20.

IT IS the same machine, even down to the menu system and remote control. They are both multiregion out of the box (I tried R1, R2, R3) The only thing different is the encasing and badging. Just thought I let you all know.

I havent got the receipt to hand as I gave it to my mum as its her proof of purchase/warranty for the TV. I bought it in the Tesco Extra store in Beckton. If you look it up on their site, you could give them a call to see if they still do it at that price. I bought it straight after Xmas for £69.99 but considering the Jan sales might be drawing to a close, they might well have put it back up to the previous price of 89.99. If I see my mum soon, I get the receipt off her and scan it in.

I was in Tesco Extra near Woolwich Ferry sunday, think same Beckton retail area, and it was £89.99. Really annoying, especially as it was on the day of the Blackwall delays!

Hi guys, I know there is now a better deal on the other thread (for £59.99) but if you are still interested in getting the Hikona 14" TV/DVD then Tesco have dropped the price again to £69.97 :)

And just to prove it, I took a snapshot of the price tag on my camera phone on Saturday in the Ponders End Tescos Extra store (near Enfield) Click Here

Multi-Region straight out of box as well.

Actually Im not sure it comes with teletext. Bought one for my mum and I live seperately from her so I havent had that much of a play on the machine aside from initially. Anyone else confirm?

Don`t know if the Cello has teletext, but the Technosonic £59.99 (fromBoots) definately has.

Did a disc check for someone on the Cello. Played multiregion and DVD+R out of the box but it stuck on a "funny" menu. It was unusual since the Sofia 02A played all 3 types and that was made over a year ago. I thought technology was supposed to improve.

So is the Technosonic only £60. If so, may try the 3 disc test
