Went into my local Staples yesterday looking for a new PC and found this base unit for £350. The shelf price is £548, but if you ask an assistant to scan it, it`s on the system for £350.

This seems like a very good deal.

Was it a display model?
Did you HAVE to add a monitor?
Do you know if it is nationwide?

Thanks in advance.

My local staples were waiting for delivery on Friday, but I got one from another store a few miles away, so it would seem it is a nationwide offer. They are brand new, not display models, but you have to add your own monitor. I have been looking for a similar spec PC for a while, and I couldn`t find anything like it for less than £500.

Just popped over to the Staples in Birmingham on the off chance that this may work, it does! They are oblivious to the fact that the shelf price states £549, when scanned at the till it comes up £350, only trouble is that there tills are playing up today so it took a while to pay!!!!!!!!
Another bargain I got whilst there was a fountain pen, shelf price £12.98, when scanned it came up £5.99.

I wonder what else they are miss scanning?

Thanks for this bargain, happy new year................

I`ve just rang my local staples at carlisle and they said they`ve got no acer units in stock. Silly me forgot to ask if they were expecting a delivery but does anyone know if staples delivers from other stores around the country? Also i`m a bit miffed, do you definately have to add a monitor to this deal and whats the cheapest monitor available?

i`ve seen 17" monitors at staples for around the £60 mark, so it`s still a mega bargain if you can snag one

Staggering really. You couldn`t put it together yourself for that price.

This sounds like an amazing deal, but lots of questions arise:

* Is the 350 quid a mistake? Could you be charged 548 quid once they spot it?

* How noisy is the PC? With an Athlon 64 and a reasonable 3D card, I`d be very worried about fan noise.

* I think people in the thread are confused about the monitor. My reading of it is that it`s purely a base unit with no monitor and you *don`t* have to buy a monitor at the time of purchase. I presume that`s correct?

Of course, I`d like it without the useless Win XP (yep, a 32-bit insecure OS on a 64-bit machine - that`s makes sense), but PCs come with the Microsoft tax whether you want it or not.
