I just had a quick look for a review on this recorder and here`s one I found on the HCC website. http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/displayreview.php?reviewid=4439
In summary it didn`t score that highly as there is no RGB input for recording in good quality, but overall they thought it wasn`t too bad for £200 which was the review price in January this year.
So £85 might be a pretty good deal if you want a basic DVD recorder to replace your VHS unit. It can only record on DVD+R and DVD+RW discs but it can play pretty much anything else.
Cheers,
Gavin.

This is the second time Sainsburys have sold refurbished models, and at £85 sounds a steal.
You have to worry, but like when you go to Dixons, when they have part exchanged models, and they always seem to be from the same manufacturer (classic being the Grundig recorder).
Why are so many people returning them - I returned the Grundig machine I bought as it could not record to 4 speed DVD+RW. Could it be that the returns have a similar "fault" or are they machines which keep crashing. I saw a review of the Yamada recorder recently and this was said to crash a lot.
Anyway, I shall still check my local Savacentre in Gillingham on the off-chance.

I wouldn`t hesitate in recommending this recorder to anyone...OK, it doesn`t have RGB input, but then again, very few sub £250 units do, and for the average bloke, it`ll make no difference to what you get onto your disc.
The reason why there are so many `refurbished` models of this available is because there was a huge cock up on the communications front when they started selling them.
Someone forgot to include the fact that you had to press a button on the handset to start the machine up and put it into it`s set up routine..People were plugging them in...se a little red light on the front panel, but couldn`t get past that, and returned them to Sainsbury`s as faulty. Sainsbury`s staff must have been unaware of this too, as they just took them back!!!
I paid £199 for mine and it`s given me nearly a years splendid service. It isn`t picky about the brand of disc you feed it (I swear it would write to a piece of cardboard if you cut it to the right size!!)..For £85..it`s a no-brainer..
**EDIT** -Oh yes, I forgot to mention..there is a good long running thread on the Hardware forum for this model..it`s never far fom the top of the first page!!
