Channel Club

bargainhunt (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 4th April 2004, 21:58

So nearly a retailer review but thought it good enough for bargain buckets.

Channel is part of Universal Studios.. It is a bit of a club like Britannia. You have to buy 3 titles each year for the first two years at club price - DVDs at £14.99 and CDs at £8.99 plus £1 p&p. Does not sound that good but here is the starter:

4 DVDs for £20 and all from the top 20. Kill Bill, Bad Boys 2, Amercian Pie 3, Return of the King all available. And got my 1st CD too - ABBA CD/DVD for £9.99 plus £1p&p. It may cost me a few pounds more than some places but got 24 months to find 5 more titles to enjoy £5 top titles.

Check out www.channel.com to see if you think it worth it.

6 * 15.99 = 95.94
4 at 20.00 first join offer
Each DVD costs - 115.94/10 = 11.59

Is OK. But can probably get about the same prices anyway and not be tied to a club, and more importantly, not keep recieving those annoying booklets they send.

I joined and picked up Kill Bill, Identity, Once Upon A Time In Mexico and The Italian Job on the 4 for £20. Then they ran a deal DVD`s for £7.99 and I got all six to fulfill the agreement including Dusk Till Dawn 2 Disc Special Edition so I was happy. They are selling more now for £6.99 including The whole Naked Gun trilogy for all the Leslie Nielson fans. You can also buy CD`s which are nearly all £8.99 or cheaper. Amy Winehouse was £6.99 for all new urban jazz fans(who makes these genres up?)

So it worked out for me 10 DVD`s for £70.00.

P.s I have yet to receive any booklets.

You have not fulfilled the agreement - really.
three a year for two years. - You could buy loads of dvds from them this year, but you still would have to buy at least three in the next year of your membership, before you can cancel.
Looks like you`ll be spending more with them, not such a bargain.
An OKish deal, beats the shops, but still you can get cheaper on-line, and not recieve all the books.

Actually No, when I ordered the six I got an e-mail form them saying I had fulfilled the agreement and when I log into my account it shows my agreement has been met and I qualify for free shipping. That was something I was worried about but as long as they run offers I will keep buying any that I want. These clubs are not for everyone but I was just looking to get 4 new titles for £20 and luckily for me they have ran offers since and CD`s are cheap.

When I was with Brittania (an error in retrospect) all the "cheap" DVDs and CDs didn`t count!
You had to buy so many FULL price items to meet your commitments.

I felt well cheated and fully sucked in - once in you can`t withdraw - was threatened with all sorts of things if I didn`t comply!!!

With Channel when you entered an item into the shopping cart it told you if it counted towards your agreement, worried me to. Luckily the £7.99 ones I ordered did and thats me done.

As the CDs are £9.99 (includes the postage), most over the odds can be will be £2 a disc. Not many places under £7.99. So £12 over the odds would add £3 to each disc (and since they are titles like Return of the King) well worth £8. They seem to have some sale offers and am sure some single DVDs will be no cheaper than £15 wherever you go.
