Gamecube RGB cable now £12.98!

Saw the OFFICIAL Gamecube RGB cable in my local Blockbuster for £15, not seen it this cheap (new at least) anywhere. Save a fiver and get the kick-ass display quality your Cube is meant for!

You can get one in GAME for 9.99 (own brand - but works fine).

Norman,
It doesn`t compare to the official one.

Proper RGB and 60Hz can only be got from the official one.

It`s well worth it.

I own the one from Game and it creates cross hatching when it 60hz mode on my 100hz TV.

I am seriously considering the official one, but the Game one allows me to connect to my receiver and listen to the games in Pro-logic. A definate trade-off in my opinion as the sound makes it sooooooo much better.

If you can advise how else I can connect my `cube to my receiver using the official lead then I`ll buy one instantly.

Great spot by the way.

I believe I can advise, Hugo!

Argos sell an RGB scart switch box for a tenner. This is a famous product since it seems to be the only cheaply available device that allows you to connect multiple RGB sources to a single RGB socket on your TV (f`rinstance I have my GC and my PS2 plugged in to one RGB socket in glorious RGB).

Now, here`s the good bit... I *think* the switch box has audio outputs on it. So you *might* be able to suck the audio signal off to your amp!

Does your Game cable have a Scart connector and two phono plugs dangling off it? If so, I would recommend buying the switch box first, leaving the phono cables on your Game lead unused, and try connecting the switch box audio outputs to your receiver. If that works, add the official RGB cable and you`re laughing! If it doesn`t work, sorry for getting your hopes up, and return the switch box to Argos.

I`ll check my switch box tonight for you, and if you want to get one, the catalogue number is [not able to check - Argos site down] - it`s the one without a scart lead attached (so you do need a scart-to-scart cable to connect it to your TV).

I`m a bit dubious about Scart switchers as I`ve heard they compromise the quality of the signal (the old addage of extra circuitry causing extra interference with a pure(ish) signal).

Do you find any difference between the quality with and without the scart switcher?

Also, if you`re lucky, you might be able to find the official Gamecube RGB Scart from Dixons. They were selling it for £7.99 but this was 2 months ago. I picked up the last one from Surrey Quays. Picture Quality is superb and 60Hz mode supreme as my widescreen set has progressive scan capability to boost the resolution. Unfortunately, I think there might be a fault with my cable itself as sometimes the picture signal just scrambles momentarily with the sound intact, as if the signal is out of sync. I have to interrupt gameplay and get up and waggle the cable - very annoying. I hope Dixons has a replacement cable I can swap with.

My TV has Dolby Digital (and hence includes Dolby Prologic) decoding built in, so I`m not missing out on the joys of the enhanced sound but it is not as good as my dedicated surround sound system. Another option is to take the stereo feed direct from the TV audio phono outputs to the external amp and then I`d be sorted! Most new TV sets (especially widescreen) have stereo audio outputs so this could be a viable solution to those with the official cable who are after Dolby Prologic output. I`ve yet to try this on my set yet but it makes sense.

I did not notice any picture deterioration using the switch box. Haven`t actually tried the GC plugged directly into the TV, but my PS2 certainly didn`t suffer. The contacts on the switch box are all gold plated, and I connect it to the TV through a gold-plated OFC cable (£6.99 from Safeways thanks to DVDvicar!). I guess you`re right, the more extensions/switches you put in the path of the signal the more quality you`re likely to lose, but to be honest it still looks the dog`s wotsits on my TV (Sony Wega flatscreen).

Wish my Dixons had had the cable in for £7.99, I`d have cleaned them out! Although I did find mine second hand for a tenner at Gamestation. And Dixons did sort me a wavebird for £20!

Thanks every one.

I`ll check for audio outputs on my TV first and then perhaps the switcher after.

Hi all,

My TV has two RCA outputs and I have just bought the official cable from Blockbusters for ... wait for it ... £12.98.

They have obviously now reduced the price by another £2 possibly due to the sale officially starting today.

The colours look brighter and more vivid than the Game one and I do not get that horrible cross-hatch pattern in 60Hz mode, so just need to buy a good analogue cable now.

Thanks,
Hugo

Hi,

yeah - I`ve used Scart Switch many times before - not now though, `cos it really messes up quality.

The degree of degradation depends on the type of signal, e.g. Satellite, Cable, Gamecube, etc, but in every instance there is a marked difference.
