Hi, I would certainly give this a wide berth. I have loaned one of these and it does not recognise DVD RW and it wont copy or write to some of the cheaper discs that you can buy. If you are willing to pay £4 or £5 per disc so that you can use this drive then you will be ok.

Id just like to say, dont even bother.
A friend of mine has a DVD burner/cloner cost him £400 and sure its good for burning like 6-7 DIVX/avi files onto a DVD, or backing up your hard drive, but dont be thinking you can copy DVD`s with the ease of say a CD.
What isnt very pubicised is the fact that almost all newer discs (i.e apart from Flippers) utilise a dual-burn facility, which basically means its layered as most of you will know. This allows them to get around the flipper problem, and allows them to squeeze around 9.4gb onto a single disc. Dual burn technology isnt integrated in any consumer dvd recorder your able to purchase yet.
Basically lads, wait till this dual burn technology is available, then invest.

You are never going to get dual layer burnable dvd-r`s or the hardware to burn them. It just won`t work..

Backing Up DVD movies is NOW VERY EASY and VERY fast. On a half decent PC it takes about 30mins to setup and then burn time depending on what speed DVD-R or DVD+R burner you have 1X = 1 hour 2X = 30mins and 4X = 15mins.
The reason it is so fast and easy now is thanks to an excellent piece of software that has just been released called: DVD2one !
What this software does is TRANSCODES DVD movie disks that are dual layered ie DVD9 down to 4.36Gb in about 15-20Mins (depending on speed of Hds and PC). Normally one would have to re-mpg these dual layered DVD movies which takes about 4 - 8 HOURS on a DECENT PC.
I have wrote a little beginners guide from start to finish for people who have DVD burners but don`t know how to backup DVD movies, check the link out below.
