17" monitor - £89.99 ???

www.maplin.co.uk

click on `computers` (top left of screen).

A long time since I have bought a monitor, so IS THIS a bargain?

Probably not the best quality, but as I have a dual head graphics card and want to start capturing and editing my home video on the PC, could be a bargain addition????

Have a look here too http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?subcat_uid=53 - there`s a CTX 17" for about the same money. Certainly an amazing thing that you can buy a 17" monitor for under £100 these days.
A couple of friends have these monitors, and they`re not bad - you do see a "mesh" of the individual pixels, but they`re OK (I have a Trinitron monitor which is very sharp and smooth, so I notice these things!!).

The only bit of advice I strongly recomend people stick to, is that the monitor that you buy must be able to perform in at least 75Hz Refresh rate at the resolution which you intend to use it for !!!!

And Ideally 85... 60 is not recomended as it is obvious to any person`s eye when a montior is running at this refresh rate when comparining to anything higher. It is deffinately not good for your eyes. 60 is usuable but causes strain and is in my opinion it is uncomfortable to look at !

I personaly recomend a nice flat screen... Iiyama are an excellent choice, but not cheap !

That Samsung looks a better bet - the Maplin one isn`t a name brand, so you have no idea what it will be like. Micoman has recommended that Samsung, so if you don`t like it you can send the boys round.

I bought my 753DF (older model) from Dabs for about £146 over 6 months ago. It took me a time to get used to the flat screen as it looks like it dips in the middle after my old monitor.

I had been told that you need a low dot pitch for a good monitor especially when its 17" or above. It can be measured in different ways but I think the Samsung is at least 0.25 which is good.

I have it set at 85Htz - 1024 x 768 and it looks very good. I`m very happy with it.

I could not find a review of the DFX model but it was mentioned below.

"The SyncMaster monitor offers a good-quality display"
