Safeway - Cheap DVD player

Naiko DVD player - £59.99

Plays MP3 CD`s and has a dolby 5.1/ DTS output. Comes with a remote but the player doesn`t appear to have a display on the front.

Not sure if it is any good but seems cheap enough

It does have a display - and a good one, just looks blank until you power it up. Bought one this week - appears to be multi-region straight from the box. I tried region 2, 1 & 4 discs & cdr`s & vcd`s - played the lot. Nice looking for a cheapy as well - bought mine as a Xmas pressie for my dad. Can`t go wrong at under 60 notes!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know if it outputs to Pal 50 as my dad`s telly isn`t NTSC compatible - it`s a JVC 28 inch that is definitely PAL 50 only - thank god my mum hated the Philips 32" widesceen my dad bought and had to give it to me.

:-)

I know that one model of Apex machine can have the firmware upgraded to be Macrovision-free, but it doesn`t look to be the model Safeway advertised, or the Naiko. And for this sort of trick "identical" isn`t something you can fudge.

Whether that can be done or not, the machine sounds pretty good: would it be compatible with that cheap speaker system that Westy is enthusing about?
