RE: An Easy problem to solve! :)

As far as I`m aware all Tosh SD210E output NTSC as NTSC not PAL60. Your problem could be that your TV doesn`t support NTSC or alternatively the TV might be set for composite video whereas the Tosh is outputting S-Video.

On my setup, switching on the Tosh causes the TV to switch to AV2 input (composite video), I then have to manually set AV2 to S-Video which is a pain.

RE: toshiba sd110e - software upgrade, do they work ok?

I have a Tosh SD210e which is basically the same player with a few additional features, I`ve had a software upgrade from mailuk which works fine.

It costs £20 if you can visit their shop (Manchester), otherwise you will have to pay postage on top. The upgrade gives you auto select multi-region, but no macrovision disable. They say that it is RCE compatable, but I`ve not been able to test this yet, so I don`t know whether it is 100% RCE compatable or whether you need to insert a non RCE R1 disc first.

I suggest you look at their web site www.mailuk.com for more details. My impression is that they are a reputable outfit, and I`m happy with my upgrade.

RE: EzyDVD?

I only ordered once from Ezy - Alien Legacy. I was lucky and got it for £43 with no customs charges, despite forgeting to ask Ezy to mark it as a gift/devalue it.

It took about 10 days to arrive, although someone from work ordered at the same time & got their`s in 4 days. It seems to me that R4 DVD from Ezy are generally a better deal than R1 from anywhere so I`ll definately use them again.

RE: TV defaults to composite video not S video when DVD player switched on

There is indeed, the Tosh is sending S video but the TV always selects composite video when the DVD player is switched on. I can`t find any option to change this.

I recall reading somewhere that the scart specification didn`t originally include S video - Is this perhaps why my TV always chooses composite video? At the end of the day, it is a minor inconvenience since I can manualy select S video but if anyone knows of a solution...

Thanks.

TV defaults to composite video not S video when DVD player switched on

How do I make my TV select S video rather than composite, when the DVD player is switched on?

I have a Toshiba SD210E connected to AV2 on a Sony TV using a fully wired scart cable. When I switch on the DVD player,AV2 is automatically selected (good) however it always defaults to composite video rather than the S video, which means that I get a black & white picture until I manually select S video on the TV.

Anyone know of a way around this?

Are mailuk OK for multi-region upgrades?

I`m looking for a multi-region upgrade for a Toshiba SD210E

mailuk are offering software upgrades for £20 or £49.99 incl collection & delivery, this seems to be about £20 less than most others are charging.

Does anyone have any experience of their upgrades or service?

RE: vcd,cdr-w and mp3

It does. Well I can`t comment on VCD but it certainly plays CDRW & MP3. At first I couldn`t get it to play MP3, I think I recorded the CD in the wrong format.

I got it working after using Nero 5 to create a bog standard ISO9660 data CD with mp3 files in the root directory & also some in a sub directory and it worked fine. I don`t know whether there are any restrictions on filename lengh etc, but I suggest you try creating a normal data CD recorded using disc at once method with no multisession. It won`t read CDs recorded in UDF (packet CD) format.

Toshiba could have been a bit more helpful with the instruction book, as it doesn`t mention MP3 at all.

RE: Multi region upgrade needed for Tosh 210

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Does your companies upgrade play RCE discs without intervention?

Multi region upgrade needed for Tosh 210

Can anyone recommend an upgrade for this player. I`ve looked at a few web sites offering upgrades for about £50 plus collection/delivery charge, but each vendor seems to sing the praises for their own kit and give dire warnings about the competition - who is worth using?

Most of the upgrades I`ve seen involve re-flashing the firmware rather than chipping, are there any disadvantages to this method other than not being able to do it yourself?

Thanks for any help.

RE: Toshiba 210e - is it the one for me?

I bought one a couple of weeks ago from www.qed-uk.com for about £173 (price gone up since) - I think I made the right choice, picture & sound are excellent.

You say its got a built in Dolby decoder? Mine doesn`t - its got the usual digital outputs for an external DD or DTS decoder.

My only regret is that I didn`t get a multi region one, so I`ll probably get it upgraded soon.
