toshiba sd110e - software upgrade, do they work ok?

norman stone (Competent) posted this on Monday, 17th September 2001, 20:51

Hi,

I realise there is no remote hack (or is there?) for this dvd player.

But has anyone got theirs upgraded via a firmware/software upgrade?

If so, did you have any problems at all, any loss of features etc etc

Also, can you play RCE discs?

I have been quoted £50 to have mine upgraded. Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper? If so, where?

Thanks in advance.

you should have no loss of features and the mod should be RCE compatible on that player .....

I have a Tosh SD210e which is basically the same player with a few additional features, I`ve had a software upgrade from mailuk which works fine.

It costs £20 if you can visit their shop (Manchester), otherwise you will have to pay postage on top. The upgrade gives you auto select multi-region, but no macrovision disable. They say that it is RCE compatable, but I`ve not been able to test this yet, so I don`t know whether it is 100% RCE compatable or whether you need to insert a non RCE R1 disc first.

I suggest you look at their web site www.mailuk.com for more details. My impression is that they are a reputable outfit, and I`m happy with my upgrade.

there is a remote hack for the toshiba sd2109 which might work.
Insert region 1 film, world region map appears,
press memory on remote. small box appears at bottom of screen.
press 1 then play, film will now play. Might work with other regions?

Thanks for that. I am led to believe that there are no remote hacks available for the toshiba sd110e.

However, I will give it a go.

Will it knacker my player if the hack doesn`t work?

Rgds.

Thanks. I have checked these people out and they quoted 50pound including postage.

I saw an advert` in DVD Reviewer quoting 20pound (including postage).

The price is very attractive but it seems too cheap.

It`s tempting though!!

Rgds.

There is no remote hack.

The one detailed above is the workaround for RCE discs on the 2109 - whenever someone asks for a Toshiba hack it gets trotted out.

As to getting it chipped just try and find somewhere nearby - most will charge about the same - £20 including postage is incredibly cheap (and has bargepole written all over it).
