RE: Component lead

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply Westy.

This dvd lark is hardwork!.
First I spend a month working out what`s the best:
dvd player, tv and vcr to order. (all arriving soon hopefully)

Now ive got to work out which cables to get to cable them together!!! (after i get these cables I then need to find an amp and speakers!!).

I`ve decided to go for 4 scart leads (tv-vcr / tv-sky / sky-vcr / dvd-vcr)

From:: beyondfhifi
BTECH - XV21
Scart lead - £8 each

From what people have said these are a good lead?. However the cheap price does concern me slightly, and how much difference there would be spending £40 for each ixos cable i dont know?!?!?!?.

The only other leads i need therefore are for connecting the dvd - tv
for this i need 2:
a component & a sound coaxial cable.

For these i think it may be worth buying IXOS to get the quality?.
Westy - sevenoaks seems really expensive to me, and they dont answer any of my emails, do you know where the cheapest ixos component & sound cables can be found?

As always your advice is very much appreciated

mark

ps. I`m sorry about all these lame newbie posts, please try and bear with me guys i promise not long now until im all setup and out of your hair!!

Using component lead rather than scart

Hi
As per previous thread i have ordered:
Toshiba 36"
Toshiba 210e Dvd

It would appear the best way to connect these 2 items is via component rather than scart.
Has anyone tried the component lead that comes with the toshiba`s?.

Would a ixos cable really be worth it?, if so do you know the cheapest place to buy ixos in the uk, there website doesnt appear to list any uk dealers???

http://www.ixos.co.uk/html/dealer/europe/index.html

TIA

RE: Those pesky moderators! Maybe?

"if people took the time out to read the Rules thoroughly"

reading the rules???, never going to happen!!.
You should put in the rules, you must pay clayts & Dan £10 per week!! see how many people actually notice, I bet not one!!

RE: Hi Guys.......Ive just got cable modem:)

Your definately lucky if you can get the ntl service, unfortunately for some mad reason this side of the road cannot have ntl yet, .so I had to sign up for btopenworld which is a bit pricey at £40 a month, but I still think it`s worth it, my 56k modem was driving me mad!.

RE: Cables - do you choose brand names??

Hi Guys sorry maybe i should have listed the items im buying:

TV - Toshiba 36" 36ZP18P
DVD - Toshiba 210e
Video - Toshiba 851UK
Sky

Any recommendations on cables is very much appreciated. 10% of the above would be £200, i am really reluctant to spend £200 on cables!!!.

TIA

(Amp & speakers yet to decide)

RE: Question 2 / Receiver choice from RS ??

thanks v much for all the input, very much appreciated.

That really only leaves the yamaha??, Does anyone have an experience with this?.

TIA

re. going in to do a test in RS - I would feel abit uncomfortable doing this, they were really busy when i went in (only been once), so don`t really want to go to all that hassle.

Question 2 / Receiver choice from RS ??

Hi

There appear to be only 5 receivers from RS that are under £200 and provide DD/DTS.

Is anyone able to put these in order as to which is the best and which one I should buy.

many thanks

Sony STRDE445 (AV Receiver) £169.95
Kenwood KRFV5050 (Silver) £179.95
Yamaha RXV396RDS (Receiver) £179.95
NAD T750 £199.95
Sherwood RD6106 £199.95

PS. fyi: I want this for films but also as the dvd player (tosh210e) plays mp3, cdr etc, i would like to use it to play music cd`s as well. (speakers will probably be one of the eltax sets from RS also, TIA.)

RE: Cables - do you choose brand names??

Cheers for the recommendation i will look around for IXOS.
My concern for these cables currently is cost. Although i appreciate the importance, i am on a tight budget for cables.
Am i right in thinking the most important scart connection is dvd to tv, the other scart connections such as tv to video, sky to tv, dvd to video i can get away with less expensive scart leads?.
Do IXOS make less expensive leads!!, i hope so, i dont want to be paying £40 per lead if i can help it.

thanks again

Cables - do you choose brand names??

Hi.

I need to buy 3/4 scart cables and a sound coaxial cable.
for new home cinema setup.

I have been to sites like keene.co.uk etc which have been recommended, but it is impossible to know if these are good
cables or not as they do not appear to be branded so there is no possibility of looking them up anywhere.

Q/ Do you guys go for brand names when choosing cables?.
Are there brand names for cables that are recommended so i can compare prices on the net??.

Richer sounds site lists "Cambridge" - would Cambridge be the one to go for?.

Advice appreciated.

Thank you

( A total cabling novice)

RE: Scan!!

FAO: Simpson:

"" I think you`ll find Tesco don`t make Wharfdales and Argos don`t manufacture all the players that they sell either ""

Im not getting involved in this conversation, personally you can buy want you want, but dont think your post makes much sense.

Argos and Tesco dont rebadge them as there own??. The badge on the front is Wharfedale same goes for Argos.

RE: Reasonably priced good Amp or receiver recommendations??

I read somewhere that some of sony amps are not very good, one post i think mentioned a slight hissing on low volume??

Just having a look at the sdb-electronics.com link now, thanks for that

RE: Sevenoaks was very disappointing

Yes i wrote it here then thought no ones going to see it so I put it into the hardware forum.

Thanks for the tips!!.

RE: Scan!!

Scan players turning up in cash converters!! - not a good sign :-)

I personally wouldn`t choose this company simply because of
there v poor aftersales service. And given the choice I would
rather have a pioneer/whafedale machine.

Also from what I am aware Scan simply buy these players from asia and badge them up as there own, they are not manufacturers of their products.

Reasonably priced good Amp or receiver recommendations??

Hi
I am probably going to buy a Eltax speaker package from richersounds as this seem the cheapest deal for speakers.

To go with this I obviously need an Amp or a Receiver.

I would like to pay as little as possible, origionally i had hoped for £200 but from looking around i may have to pay slightly more than this??.

Can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced amp.
I want it for dvd movies and playing music cd`s through my dvd player.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

RE: Sevenoaks was very disappointing

Cheers clayts. I have just moved down here so your advice is very much appreciated I will get my map out and go check out selectadisc.

Found the Sony Shop, unfortunately sony currently dont have anything of interest, they currently only have one model of 36" tv and there dvd players don`t seem worth looking at imo, I guess i might go back and see what amps they have.

Does anyone recommend an amp or preferably a receiver for a good price, i.e. preferably under £200, but i am coming round to the idea i may have to pay slightly more than £200. I basically want to couple it with some Eltax speakers from richersounds, any recommendations appreciated

TIA

RE: Scan!!

LOL. you tell em mackie.

Sevenoaks was very disappointing

Hi

After noting all the mentions on this site about, richer sounds & seven oaks. i decided to seek them out last saturday and go have a look for myself.
I went to the one in nottingham finding richer sounds first, (- quite a lot smaller than i thought but they were very helpful and have some great things, I will be going back to test an amp and speakers).)

I then went across the road to sevenoaks and was very disappointed, they had a much bigger store, but i am surprised if they sold anything all day. I went on saturday and richer sounds was packed, not one customer was in sevenoaks, i was in there for about 4 minutes and i felt so uncomfortable i had to get out.

I also thought it looked quite expensive and surprised people here go there [ not that i think you guys are cheap skates or anything :-) ]

The reason for my post really is can anyone recommend other nationwide shops (or in nottingham) more like richersounds, rather than sevenoaks. I am looking for a full system.

thanks in advance
