Joking Apart Series 2 DVD

As I purchased series 1 of the excellent BBC comedy Joking Apart, I have been sent an email telling me that series 2 is now available. :)

Not sure if you class as a bargain (£15.99 + £1 P&P), but take into account that this has been done independently (see the website), and is on 2 discs including a lot of extras and the original pilot (some of which was used in the first episode). Can buy both series at a reduction. Amazon currently selling series 1 but more expensive.

I know I haven`t submitted for a while (only when I think there is something worth submitting!) and that I previously recommended series 1, but as I said before I have no connections with the release, so buy if you liked the series, don`t bother if you didn`t. :p

I`m waiting for my disc to arrive. Released today. :)

Hope someone finds this of use. Goodnight.

Panasonic DMCFZ7BB 6MP Digital Camera £149.99 Argos

I see there was a recent post for this, but here is another alternative, and from the High Street.

Good buy for someone, and seems to be in stock at some stores here in the West Midlands.

Just need a cheap SD card, not from Argos, and maybe a spare third party battery and as always with digital cameras you don`t get a case.

I opted for a Sony H1 about a year ago, also on clearance from Argos, otherwise I may have gone for this model myself.

Plenty of American reviews available on the web.

RE: Amazon delivery times

No problems for me either - used them on and off over the last 3 years. Had delivery today - dispatch estimate was Mar 1st, delivery estimate 5th - 7th! :) :) :)

If in stock shouldn`t be any problem (touch wood), much like Play.com :) :) :)

RE: ARGOS exchange/refund query

And I see that Argos now has a standard 30 day money back guarantee rather than the old 16 day one, (some items excluded still of course). :) :)

I`ve found them pretty good with returns in the past, although I think looking after the packaging helps.

RE: Sony Sat Nav NV-U50 (with partial France/Belgium) & full postcode reduced to £99.99 at JS

I guess Sony have updated the software, since the reviews I saw.

Some you win, some you lose. :( :( :( although I`ve probably spent enough this Xmas (he says trying to console himself)

I`ll carry on with the book for the time being. :¦ :¦ :¦ Nothing like a good argument over map directions with the missus! :) :) :)

RE: Sony Sat Nav NV-U50 (with partial France/Belgium) & full postcode reduced to £99.99 at JS

Looks like they`ve sold out, locally at least anyway (West Midlands).

It was a good buy at that price.

RE: Sony Sat Nav NV-U50 (with partial France/Belgium) & full postcode reduced to £99.99 at JS

I was looking at this - doesn`t the product only support 6 digit postcodes? :/

Seems to get pretty good reviews, though not the latest sirf star 3 receiver (it`s 2) whatever difference that means.

Don`t know how it compares to Tom Tom 1 which is now about for £150, £50 cheaper than before Xmas.

RE: Has there been an all in one DVD freeview Dvd player invented?

Panasonic has one analogue and one digital tuner. Well rated machine.

RE: xbox games 99p - Virgin Megastore - Instore Only - Nationwide

On order with supplier with HMV - probably means no chance. :( :( :(

I`ve got an item on order with HMV which states `usually 3 - 5 days`, and it`s been a month. Despite telling them, it still shows the same on the website. :( :( :(

Anyway, enough about HMV, no XBox games reduced at Virgin Merry Hill, West Midlands.
:( :( :(

RE: Xbox Ultimate Travel Pack 29.99

Haven`t they all got a hard disk? :/ :/

I do understand your point and did debate purchasing, but was willing to give the Travel pack a try for just over £20 (there`s no way I would have paid over £100). As for the practicality out and about, time will tell. It will play DVD`s as well as games of course, but I`ve noticed the volume level typically on DVD`s, is somewhat lower than playing a game. It doesn`t appear that the Xbox allows adjustment of the DVD volume unlike the PS2. There is the headphone option of course.

Playing a game on the TFT seemed fine, albeit in the house, and you can connect to another external device (although most TV`s will have Scart or AV connections these days). The case is pretty good quality and allows for storage of other items. The main problem at the end of the day is that Xbox isn`t exactly a small piece of kit. It`s probably not recommended to try and attach it to the back of a car seat!

How does anyone else who bought one, intend using it?

RE: X Box with four games for under £50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Argos has `reduced` the XBox from £89.99 to £69.99 today, including the 4 games (which are on sale for £19.99 on their own). :¦ :¦
Judging by the plentiful stock at our local Argos, expect a drop back down to £49.99 at some stage.
Saw one sold on Ebay with the picture clearly showing the Argos product label for £55 (+P&P), so that was well worth the trouble of advertising. Maybe they should have bought a Wii instead. :) :) :)

Given that the 360 has been out for a year, at which point Microsoft effectively killed off the XBox, where has all this stock appeared from (& don`t say Microsoft!). Argos wasn`t even selling the XBox prior to this offer.

Having bought one from the original offer, I`ve found a second controller hard to get hold of. Any ideas other than Ebay Hong Kong controllers?

RE: Xbox Ultimate Travel Pack 29.99

Received mine yesterday - haven`t connected it yet. Ordered last Sunday via Amazon marketplace and was delivered 2nd class via Parcelforce, which had to be signed for yesterday. 5 days, not bad. :) :) :)

First time I`ve used the Marketplace; Amazon have been excellent with my orders.

Screen can be used at home via AC/DC adaptor and connected to another external source if required. The in car adaptor looks a good quality product - has to step up 12V to 240V to supply XBox, with 12V supply to TFT screen and has lots of protection to prevent your XBox blowing up - 2 fuses with spares, and auto-cutoff if car voltage drops too low.

I wasn`t sure if the screen would be 6" or 7". The invoice says 6", the diagonal measurement appears to 7", an all important extra inch! :o :D

Not exactly portable like other in car DVD players, but for £22.............and with ability to play games, sadly not while driving.

Have to see how XBox copes on the move and over the bumps.

RE: Akura 15"LCD TV

I don`t have more info about this particular model but I do own an Alba 15" LCD. These cheaper models are fine where space is at a premium, but the sound tends to be pretty poor. You can use some (though not all) with a PC :) :(
I have just bought one of our kids a Hitachi CRT 14" C14D24 from Argos for £80 with a built in DVD and the picture and sound are much better, but of course it takes up more space, and you can`t use with PC(?). :) :(

LCD`s are starting to have Freeview built in. That said Freeview boxes are getting pretty cheap (I recommend the Wharfedale DV832S again from Argos - look on DigitalSpy site for their reviews). :)

So Akura for £117.50 (incl VAT), or Hitachi with DVD + a decent Freeview box for £110. Final recommendation again from web info - decent indoor TV aerial where reception is good - Telecam TCE2000 £10. :B :B :B

The choice as they say is yours.

Joking Apart - comedy starring Robert Bathurst

This is a much overlooked BBC comedy from 1993 which never looked as if it would be released on DVD, until someone bought the rights off the BBC and released it off his own back.
Not necessarily a bargain at £14.99 inclusive (unlike my other postings), but priceless if you enjoyed it first time round on BBC2. 8)
If enough sales are made on series 1, we have been told that the second (which was the final series) from 1995 will be made available sometime in the near future.
(Robert Bathurst also appeared in the excellent Cold Feet of course.)

You can only purchase direct from the following site
http://www.replaydvd.co.uk/index.htm

My DVD arrived promptly and I now await news of Series 2 (I am on the mailing list). Series 1 DVD includes (more recently) recorded commentaries on 4 of the 6 episodes, and a `making of` documentary.

More info on series at
http://www.jokingapart.co.uk/main.htm

I have no personal connection with the sale of this item. I would just like series 2 to be available.

UFO - Gerry Anderson

HMV yet again.

Part 1 & 2 £15.99 each - seriously cheap if you don`t own already.

My brother has the original release with postcards, but you haven`t been able to buy this new for a long time.

RE: Gerry Anderson Super Set at DDHE for £39.99

Thanks, ordered Tuesday, got an immediate confirmation e-mail, and arrived by courier on Thursday!
When I`d enquired on the phone I was told that as a lot of people had ordered it might be 7/14 days! Had to be signed for on delivery, which was good considering it was free P&P.
Back up to £90 now.
Each of the 18 DVD`s mentions DDHE on the back of the box, so this set appears to be exclusive to them.

RE: Joe 90 Complete Series £14.99 & Thunderbirds Boxsets also £14.99

Joe 90 ordered Tuesday, arrived today. Still £14.99 for anyone who wants it, as are the 2 Thunderbirds volumes. :)

Thanks for the original post.

RE: Argos Sale - Creative Zen 20Gb MP3 Player £110

The only thing I can suggest, is going back to the store where you bought it from (when it`s quiet - if ever with Argos), with a note of the date purchased.

They may be able to track back to see if any of that item were sold on that day (Index used to do this). Have you got the original box with the catalogue number on? They might do something for you as a goodwill gesture. Argos are normally pretty good.

Much better to pay by credit card, especially as it was over £100.

RE: HMV 20% off this Friday and Saturday (20/21 Oct 2006) online only

Been a little disappointed. :/ My order was for 13(!!) items. :o

On the plus side :)
1. Those that have arrived were in A1 condition and arrived reasonably promptly (I guess they took a lot of extra orders on those 2 days).
2. I got some very good deals.
3. HMV have replied to my e-mails, but this first order with HMV remains `open` after nearly 2 weeks.

On the negative side :(
1. One title was the wrong one so has been sent back using the freepost service.
2. One title hasn`t arrived yet and given the time up till now I`m not sure if it will. I think I have to wait 14 days to see if it arrives.
3. Two titles still outstanding, one on `special order`, one awaiting stock from supplier. Only one item was supposed to take more than 24 hours to despatch on ordering.
4. Received e-mails for some of the items being despatched, but not others.

Ordered 1 item from Amazon.co.uk and 4 from Play.com in the meantime, which all arrived without any problem (as with previous orders).

Maybe I was just unlucky, as other people seem to have got on OK. Hopefully report back with good news shortly. :/ :/

The Prisoner boxed set (incl 35th Anniv disc)

For anyone who`s interested, the 60`s series The Prisoner is on offer at Play.com for £17.99 - I paid over £30 for this.

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1063590/The_Prisoner_The_Ultimate_Collection_Box_Set/Product.html

There seem to be some other good offers on boxsets (as have HMV, mentioned in the 20% off thread), if you`ve time to go through the 1100 odd entries!

RE: HMV 20% off this Friday and Saturday (20/21 Oct 2006) online only

Thanks robgt for the tip, although I`ve spent more than I should have, although I have `saved`! (that`s what I`ve told `the other half`)

Made sure I got my selection right before I used the promo code. :) :) :)

Website running fine at the moment compared to during the day yesterday.

First time user - will try to post any new deals that I find.

Cheers,
