RE: Siemens HHB-610 Bluetooth headset was £49.99 now £9.99

This sounds similar to what happened to mine - when I unplugged the charger and turned the unit on, the light went off. I had to give it a really good, overnight charge for the internal battery to realise that it had some juice in it. It`s worth leaving it charging overnight.

RE: Siemens HHB-610 Bluetooth headset was £49.99 now £9.99

I had similar problems which I put down to the `initial` charge being a bit tempremental...

I left it charging for three hours, turned it on and didn`t get the expected `slow flashing` that shows the unit is working. Anyway, tried pairing the headset with my phone while it was plugged into the charger, and that worked OK. Left the headset charging overnight and it seems to have charged up OK. Sound quality is a bit poor but as this is my first Bluetooth headset I didn`t know what to expect anyway. Just hope that subsequent charges from empty don`t need to be left overnight.

My verdict - not too bad for the price.

Matsui DA-1 DAB hi-fi adaptor for £19.99 (+ £8.99 P&P) at Inest

Here`s a highly-rated DAB receiver with remote control to add digital radio to your hi-fi:

www.inest.co.uk/products/DA-1_DAB_Receiver_-_Remote.asp?typeId=683&id=528

There is a thread about modifying this excellent receiver at

(Basically, the receiver sounds good out-of-the box, and there are plenty of options to make it even better.)

RE: Intempo DAB radio under £30

I`ve got two of these blighters (one for the office, one for home). Worth keeping an eye out for the next price reduction.

They are quite good, except...

The first one I bought makes a `raspberry` sound out of the speaker when it is turned up loud (I think one of the power supply caps might have a dry joint, and jumps out of circuit when the vibrations from the speaker jiggle it). The second one only has one of the audio channels working - there is a loose connection from the main board to the volume control, which I can get working when I`ve got the set opened up, but which gets loose again by the time I`ve put the back on (of course).

So I might have had two sets from an early batch when the quality control wasn`t as good as it is now. If course, me dropping the sets a few times probably didn`t help...

BTW If anyone`s techy enough, it looks as if there are traces on the circuit board for an S/PDIF digital out option. The Line Out should be good enough for most people, though!

Cheers.

RE: Personal DAB radio

I can recommend this personal DAB - I`ve had one for around 18 months. Sound quality is good to excellent if you`ve got a strong DAB signal. If you`re moving around - on a train for example - the signal can drop out, leading to a scatching noise (as opposed to some other DAB sets, which merely `burble` when the signal strength is low).

The DR011 is a bit hungry on batteries, though - I get about 3 hours use out of a pair of 1800 mAh NiMH rechargeables. The set has an DC-in socket so you can plug a mains adapter into it.

To go with this DAB, I bought a pair of isolating earphones - the Ross Sparkplugs are available for around £15. These allow me to keep the volume at the 2nd/3rd lowest setting most of the time, and increases the battery life over what I used to get with the maker`s supplied headphones (I used to need the volume on the 1st/2nd highest settings with the old phones). The lead on the Spark Plugs is a bit longer than that on the supplied set, so I get slightly better reception with the Spark Plugs, to boot ...

Cheers,
d`ijj.

RE: Goodmans GSR80 DAB Digital Radio £49.99

Right, I`d better not admit that one of the reasons I bought my Goodmans was for the `interesting` styling (a bit Old Skool). Anyway, the Matsui looks to be a better bet (especially at that price) and it`s got 10 presets (but no FM tuner).

RE: Goodmans GSR80 DAB Digital Radio £49.99

I`d be wary of this Goodmans set. I bought one earlier this year and had to return it because of poor sound quality. The DAB sound was muddy (lacking treble), unlike any of my other DAB radios. Comparing Radio 1 on DAB to Radio 1 on FM showed the former to be unlistenable. Two friends who bought this set also report the DAB sound quality is poor.

The operation of this machine was also awkward, with fiddly buttons to move between stored stations (no preset buttons on either FM or DAB).

I was able to return my GSR80 to Empire Direct for a full refund because of the poor sound quality. Keep the receipt in case you can`t stand the muddy DAB sound!
