RE: What should I get out of this lot????

Thanks for the reply, I`ve only seen the Tosh in a picture so it was a bit presumptious of me to say they looked crap. I`m starting to sway that way though, I remember reading up somewhere that the SD110 is a very good player so the 210 should be even better (in theory).

Interesting to find out if these H&B thing are any good though, anyone got one yet??

What should I get out of this lot????

Anyone got any thoughts on which of the following I should get??
I`ve got £180 to spend, no more or the missus will be upset.
Its got to have all the usual, Multi region, CD/CDr/mp3..... etc etc.

RE: Playing music on a Wharfedale 750 through a Sherwood Amp

I have the RD6106 driving a pair of Mordaunt Short MS20i`s and find it`s music playback to be spot on.

In order for the sub to work you have to set the amp up correctly, there are settings for different sizes of speaker (small/medium/large) and some combinations disable the sub ie. if you have large fronts/centre & rears. Youre best off reading the manual and messing about till its sounds right I can`t remember off the top of my head exactly how you set it up.

As far as there not being a right lot of bass you can adjust the bass/treble levels to suit.

I would recommend buying a dedicated CD player for your music, my DVD player sounds OK but like anything electrical if its a jack of all trades it`ll invariably be a master of none.

good luck with it.

RE: WOOLWORTHS MIX UP MAKES MY DAY

So if you lost 500 quid u wouldn`t care???

Do you go round with Thade on a Sunday preaching the word of jehova???......................Tossers.

RE: Sky Digital

Hmmm, tight Bastards.
You could always order ITV digital (not as good as Sky apparantly, but they install free and its cheaper), ring Sky and actually go to cancel your account, they shold ask why. Hopefully when they see there gonna lose business they`ll give u the box, ring back ITV and cancel the installation. I can`t imagine anyone shelling out £300+ for a new system thats `kin extortionate.
Trouble with your fault, if it was like mine, is you couldn`t just live with it, it was a case of getting off your arse every 1/2 hour to turn the bloody thing off/on and wait for it to boot up, bloody annoying.

Anyway worst that`ll happen is your stuck with ITV digital for 12 months, can`t be that bad, ...........can it??

RE: Sky Digital

Good luck m8, lets us know if they give u a new box.

RE: I want to see Indiana Jones on DVD.......

Mmmm I too would pay good money for a close up of Ms Richards double box set....lovely lovely :)

I want to see Indiana Jones on DVD.......

Anyone know if theres any plans to realease these on DVD???

Why wouldn`t they? I know I`d buy them, wouldn`t you?

RE: Sky Digital

My box kept on locking up intermittently which meant you had to switch off/on at the mains to get it going again. Rang Sky and they said they`d send an engineer out to sort it but it`d cost 50 quid, told her to go bollox.

Rang back next day to cancel my account and when they asked why I told them that it was knackered, I wasn`t prepared to pay for it fixing and you could get ITV digital installed cheaper. So they replaced my box for free, result.

I had a black grundig (i think ) box and the engineer reckoned these were prone to going wrong, replaced it with a nice shiny Pace unit which matches my DVD player, happy now.

Basically, its in Sky`s interests to keep you on a subscription and absorb the cost of reparing your unit, they`re just moneygrabbing bastards out for as much as they can get.

RE: Problem with Saving Private Ryan & Awia 370

Have same problem with my Eclipse 595, played ok first few times then after the beach landing where they`ve climbed up to the trenches noticed bright patches around the flames. After that sequence it stops and doesn`t recurr, weird.
Also, Eclipse 595 has s*** NTSC to PAL conversion, all my R1`s are jerky (taking it back on thursday).

RE: Why built-in Dolby Digital decoding??

Ive got an Eclipse 595 & a Sherwood rd6106 which is both a six channel receiver and DD, DTS decoder.
Using the 5.1 output from the DVD to the amp does not sound as good as using the digital out from the player and letting the receiver do the decoding.
There is also a difference in quality between playing audio CD`s through the stereo RCA outputs and using the digital out, the digital out sounds much better.

RE: eclipse 595

I have owned an Eclipse 595 for about 3 months and am experiencing problems with r1 dvd`s. Whenever the camera pans at speed the picture jumps as if mising a frame every half a second or so, this happens on my 2 r1 titles (Gladiator & Saving private Ryan) but it doesn`t do it on rented r2 titles from the vid shop.
I don`t know if its my TV or the player but Richer Sounds have agreed to swop it for me with the option of an upgrade if I`m still not happy (they`d get 10 out of 10 for customer service if they wern`t so f*&king busy all the time).
The actual picture quality is superb on r2`s and if I didn`t have this problem with r1`s I`d be happy. Hooked up to my Sherwood RD6106 its also sounds wicked playing either Audio or DVD soundtracks.
Only other probs are the finish and the remote control are a bit cheap looking and if I upgrade mine I`ll have a serious look at one of the following:

Limit JDV300A
Philips DVD711
Pioneer DV535

All available at richersounds.com for around the same price.

RE: DVD Boxoffice turnaround

Depends on availability, recently bought:
Saving Private Ryan - 6 weeks!!
Gladiator - 8 weeks (was a pre-release order though)

They are good with cust. service though, always answer your emails moaning about where your film is.

Differences in playback between r1 & r2 dvds on Eclipse DVD595

The problem is when the camera pans at speed the picture seems to miss a frame every half a second or so resulting in a jerky effect which is extremely annoying.

This only seems to occurr when playing R1 DVD`s, R2`s are fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas why this happens??

thanx for any info

Dave

RE: Video Logic DTS Speakers

Alternativley, why not go for an AV receiver/amp and a good set of speakers.
I recently purchased a Sherwood RD6106 receiver a pair of Mordaunt-short MS20i bookshelf speakers and a Gale sw5 sub-woofer.
Running with the centre and rear speakers that came with my TV it sounds superb, full dolby digital 5.1 & DTS decoding built in, 65w/channel, radio and also plays audio CD`s through my DVD as well, sound quality is fantastic!!

Got them at www.richersounds.com and they cost:
Reciever - £199.99
Speakers - £60.00
sub - £60.00

Richer sounds are doing a home cinema speaker deal (fronts, centre & rears) for £120.00.
