RE: avg and avg anti-spyware - query
Thanks for getting back. I now know what 9 in padlock does. But still very slow loading up or even accessing an item (Outlook express) from my desktop. I`ll try getting an issue of June Computer shopper as recommended. Would like to avoid format if possible.
"When you say "boot up"...what appears to take the most time?
Is it quick to get into the desktop 5 mins
but then slow to respond because of programs loading then 8 mins to access anything on desk top?Or does it take ages to actually get to the desktop about 2 mins?
You can check what programs are configured to start using the utility called "msconfig"
Checked and have about 52 processes running when loading up
Performance jumping from 2% to 40%
PF Usage max 325MB
Also noticed AVG: is in constant state of telling restart PC to complete update, but doesn`t always update. Still black and white.
Still painfully slow. Have tried uninstalling AVG and doing a clean install instead of update still no difference in speed.
Zone Alarm is now playing up and wants to update but has difficulty connecting to its update site, taking up to 5 mins.
Any other suggestions? Thanks.
avg and avg anti-spyware - query
My dell Latitude takes well over 5 mins to boot up. Somehow I`ve got avg and avg anti-spyware, where in the past I`ve generally stuck to avg (and Zone Alarm).
Do I really need both, or what else can I do to speed up booting process.?
Also, I`ve noticed a "green lock with no. 9" that stays on the keypad, is this normal.
Thanks

mailwasher problems
I`ve been using mailwasher for a while. Recently it has stopped filtering my emails when I hit the process button. It deletes and blacklists marked emails but will not move the remaining emails into my outlook express.
Anyone know why? Cheers

I need to get a desktop for someone, mainly for boadband, word & excel and with a flat screen. I`ve looked at dell which a lot of people have recommended but really want to get something much cheaper.
What price can I expect to pay and whats a good brand? Are their any bargains around?

There were 4 left in St. Clare`s branch (Hampton), and I got one of them. Ring first to be sure theyre still there. One branch said they`re not expecting anymore deliveries and if you see them and want them get them quick.

RE: Backing up VHS tape
I`m able to make copies of home recorded vhs tapes onto dvd or from TV. I can`t seem to make a copy of a BBC vhs tape. I thought it might be to do with copyrite or something like that.
The VCR is connected to DVDR by a scart cable and when I record from the DVDR I select source as being from SCART
Thanks Rassilon I`ll check it out.

Backing up VHS tape
Whats the best way to make backup of vhs tape onto dvd? I`ve tried to copy a damaged tape before it gets worse but the dvd recorder wont record it.
I`ve read that I might need another type of scart cable.
