RE: AOL Question.. Is there any way I can...........?

The new Version 9 software thats about to be launched will do this.

You can dial in to AOL over TCP/IP or Dial Up and not have to have the whole version of the sofware running and being memory resident.

I`ve been Beta Testing it and it`s very good.

RE: rear projection at currys or dixons

DLP, no mirrors? Are mirrors not an intrinsic part of DLP technology?

Sorry, what I meant was there is no huge mirror to make the product huge in depth (Sony KP44DX2U is 1.16m deep!), and yes LG DLP uses a Digital Micromirror Device(DMD).

The DMD chip is probably the world`s most sophisticated light switch. It contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors; each of these micromirrors measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair, and corresponds to one pixel in a projected image.

I have a DMD on my keyring, and considering it`s size, it`s pretty impressive to see what produces this stunning image! I`ll leave the decision up to you!?

RE: rear projection at currys or dixons

Hi Guys

The number of Rear Projection TVs is about to increase in Currys and Dixons as manufacturers other than LG launch DLP models. The DLP is a fantastic product, I launched it with LG in to the UK market, and at only 34cm deep, it is sleek. But, the Samsung is very nice too, but gets screen burn.

If I were you, I would go for the LG DLP, as the technology won`t change drastically, and cos it uses a light wheel and bulbs, no mirrors, there`s no screen burn. The picture is visually stunning in comparison to a normal Rear Pro, so it`s the one I`d go for personally.

ps I work for Currys in Marketing!?

RE: Help: New TV

That`s a tough call seeings both these TVs have won a silly amount of awards in both What Hi Fi and What Home Cinema. Both give an absolutely great picture, but your best bet is to go to somewhere like a large John Lewis and see both of them. What they tend to do is play a DVD Player directly in to each display model to show the clarity of each model.

Toshiba is the biggest selling market model, but I think they have some stiff competition in the Panasonic. If you`re looking for good prices, try www.digitaldirectuk.com, I bought my Tosh 36ZP38 from them but I know they have great service and next day delivery and chucked in loads of extras like component cables, scart cables, speaker stands and optical cables for next to nothing!

Good Luck....spuddie

RE: Panasonic PS1 Question

The Panasonic TX28DT3 is an old model Panasonic with 100Hz and iDTV. The newer model is the Panasonic TX28DT4 which is 28" Pureflat 50Hz iDTV but the 28PS1 is 28" Pureflat 50Hz with no iDTV!

RE: MICO Espevo R311 recordable DVD player £249.99 at Sainburys

Quote:
The Mico DVD recorder is only £229, and is the same spec as Philips DVDR70.

It is a Philips reference machine.

I have one of these units and I`m taking it back. I tried to play Confidence (region 1 with MR hack) and it plays up to the menus but won`t play the film. Also tried to play Star Wars (region 2) Episodes 1 & 2 and it won`t play. Mines on it`s way back to London Colney Sainsbuy`s today.

I don`t believe that its ref is DVDR70 as it`s come staright out of Japan...

Cheers and good luck!

RE: Help- installing USB speedtouch 330 modem for broadband connection

Hello

I had the same problem with Windows 98. It is to do with the USB drivers on the PC itself. The USB Speedtouch Modem is made to work on USB 2.0 connections, where Windows 98 SE only has the capability to connect USB 1.0 version hardware. The only way around this is to upgrade Windows to Windows ME (Millenium) or XP.

Thats what I had to do!

RE: HELP! - I`m looking to buy my first computer......

Hiya

I bought my PC from a company called www.europc.co.uk
a couple of years ago, and now my brother`s company buys these units for themselves too.

Basically, they sell Dell PCs that have been ordered and then cancelled. BUT, as they`ve already been built, Euro PC buys them from Dell and sells them on. You get the same build quality for 3/4 of the price.

I got a Dell precision Workstation (more poerful than a normal PC) for £876 fully-loaded and it was available from Dell direct to the same spec for £2100 PLUS VAT and Delivery.

Try them and see - good spec, great prices.

ps Don`t go to Dixons or PC World.....spec and machines are a rip-off (and work for them!)

Good Luck!

RE: Rear projection tvs - any good?

The Sony model is now a discontinued model so you would be better off waiting a while while the prices go down. They do suffer screen burn, just like Plasma TVs do - I work for Dixons - and we are working with Broadcasters such as Sky and Channel 5 to get logos removed.

In my opinion, go for a 36" widescreen, as it`s narrower than the 1.16m depth of a Sony!

Also, the other option is to go for an LG RE44SZ20RD which is a 44" DLP TV which does not suffer screen burn, has a better viewing angle than Rear Projection TVs and supreme brightness on the scren.....but....yes theres a but.......it`ll set you back aroung £2500.
