RE: simple electrical question, hopefully - wall switch for 6v dc lights run off trannie SORRY! move
Hi close to the edge,
FIRST TURN OFF ALL THE ELECTRICS AT THE CONSUMER UNIT.
In the loft use a junction box and spur off your ring mains circuit (if you do not have ring mains in your loft you can spur off your lighting circuit as the current you will be drawing would be very small). If you are spurring off the ring mains use 2.5mm cable and if you are comming off the lighting circuit you can use 1mm twin and earth.
Take the cable down to the partition wall and wire in to a switched fused spur, use a 3 amp fuse in the switched fused spur. Now take a cable from the load side off the switched fused spur back the the loft and wire in to a single socket. Plug in your transformer.
Every time you operate the switched fused spur you will be actually turning the transformer on and off providing you leave the single socket switched on in the loft.
You will find the following two websites very useful, both of the sites are for the UK and if you type electrics in the search box on the first site it will bring up the relevant info.
www.diyfixit.co.uk/
www.diydata.com/diyindex/elecindex.htm
But i would highly recommend getting an electrician to do the wiring or at least check it.
