turning on hi-grade latop wireless

My girlfriends mother has a hi-grade laptop (not sure of model ) with wireless internet, this has stopped working. I believe that a combination of Fn key and another button turns this on and off. Does anyone have any idea what combo will work.

thanks for the advice, I have now registered by going on the website of a friends computer but I am still unable to get on the avast website from my computer, the browser just timeouts. Any ideas?

I have installed avast antivirus and am trying to register it but i cannot get onto the avast website using either firefox or internet explorer. I guess it is some virus or spyware and have run avast and spybot and ad-aware, yet the problem has not gone. Has anyone any ideas how I can solve this? :/
