Which sub £250 DVD recorder?

I have been looking for a recorder (sub 250 if poss)...

Seen the E55 and the samsung R100...

i have telewest digital cable so will record the odd thing from there.. I dont think I will be recording alot of stuff.

If there is anything out there that could `control` the Telewest Pace box??? Thats probs too much to ask??

All replies and advice... very very welcome!

RE: Thomson TV - bright white causes screen to bounce?

Thanks for your reply, I will see what they have to say.

The bush was a very cheap TV... the thomson cost 150quid more.

I just didnt expect this bounce.

Thanks again.

RE: Thomson TV - bright white causes screen to bounce?

They had my TV for 3 weeks.

I recorded a VCD which just contained two images... a white square (that filled 80% of the screen) and a black one.

When viewing the white one all is crisp.. skip to the black... again nothing to report.

But when you skip back to the white, the images distorts (wobbles at the sides), no roll this time though.

My brother has the same model of TV done the same test, his does the same thing (but far less wobble).

I tried the same test on a cheap BUSH tv.. and that remained stable?!

The TV is 6-7 months old now, still under warranty.

I spoke to the place where I bought it from, and they say it must be something to do with my surroundings??

Any advice?

RE: NEC DVDwriter for £103 + VAT

I have a NEC1100 +R (I think the scan one is a X2 version of mine)

Had no probs at all with it!

RE: DVD -R or DVD +R

I have a +R/+RW nec drive for my PC. I dont mind paying a litte bit extra for my blanks because they play in my pioneer, wharfdale and LG players.

RE: Banding with NTSC/region 1 and RGB Scart

I have tried Auto, Pal and NTSC options on my DVD.. all produce banding when played thru RGB Scart. No sign of it when played via SVHS or normal scart. Very weird!

Oh, SVHS does seem to cause a bit of bleed. Noticable when Red on Black! RGB produces super crisp images!

The bleeding isnt as annoying as the banding though

RE: Banding with NTSC/region 1 and RGB Scart

Just plugged my DVD into SCART2 on my TV and set it up as SVHS. No more banding.

SVHS seems to look loads better than `standard` video... I cant tell any difference between it and RGB (apart from no banding!!) Am happy now :-)

RE: Banding with NTSC/region 1 and RGB Scart

I have a Thomson 28inch.. and pioneer DVD player.

My brother has the same model TV but different model pioneer.. and he gets the same.

Mmmm I wonder if I could persuade the missus to go for a new TV :-)

RE: Advice wanted on decent budget DVD player

my brother bought a multiregion Pioneer 350 from superfi 99quid

Plays VCDs.. not sure about SVCDs though.. does MP3s though.. and likes -R and +Rs

RE: DVD Burner and Media advice required please!

I have a NEC1100 (does +R) under 150quid. I use Datewrite media.. great for PSX backups and DVD backups

RE: Banding with NTSC/region 1 and RGB Scart

Just two faint lines I suppose... a wave? Hard to explain

RE: Thomson TV - bright white causes screen to bounce?

the havent been able reproduce the `bounce`

so i have lent them a few DVDs and a VCD i recorded (that just alternates from full white to black screen).

have also asked if I can part ex my TV!

After buying the 656 and a decent scart cable... think my TV lets the rest down!

Banding with NTSC/region 1 and RGB Scart

when I watch a region 2 DVD thru RGB Scart... picture is great.

When I watch a region 1 DVD thru RGB Scart I notice slight `banding` not too bad.. but there.

When I switch to none RGB scart mode on my DVD player.. the banding is no more (of course the picture isnt as good either!)

Just wondered why?

Tried it on my brothers DVD.. does the same thing?!?

RE: XP question

Sun sued Microsoft about Javascript... so Microsoft had to remove it from future products. Its there when you do an upgrade.. but not a fresh install.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

http://www.telford.ws/vm40-Java-9x-XP-msjavx86.exe its 5MB but will install the missing java you need :-)

Pioneer 656 and Zooming

Have recently bought a 656, very impressed with the picture etc. At the same time my brother purchased a 350.

Similar menus etc.

The one thing that does bug me is the zoom function.

On the 350, while playing, press zoom and it zooms in (still playing)

On my 656, I press zoom. It pauses! Zooms in. if I press play again it zooms out? (it does say it does this in the manual). I just dont see the point in having a zoom at all if it just does static pictures??

RE: Advice Please - DVD Player that plays copied dvd`s

My brother bought a pioneer 350 (ultra slim) player from superfi at the weekend. £99 (multiregion too). Tried it with +R and -R all ok. Picture when thru RGB very good! I was very impressed with it.

RE: Thomson TV - bright white causes screen to bounce?

I have bought a new DVD player recently (at the weekend). A pioneer 656. Havent had a chance to try it on my TV (I took it in for the shop to look at)

will report back.. when I get it back! thanks

Yamaha SW205

I have a Yamaha sub (connected to my Yamaha 620 amp).

When listening at lowish volumes I can hear what sounds like interferance (may be there at higher volumes too.. just cant hear it then).

Only had it a few months.. just got some cheap bainbridge 7quid phono connectors.

Is it worth spending more on a connector? would it get rid of this interferance?

Its not major.. just annoying now I know its there!!

RE: Which DVD - Pioneer 656 or 717?

My brother bought a 350 at the same time. Havent compared the two as yet. But I assume there will be a difference between them... apart from the 200quid one

RE: Which DVD - Pioneer 656 or 717?

Bought a 656 this afternoon, 299 multiregion. Just plugged it in.. and WOW!

My past players have been a wharfdale 750, LG 5253 and Thomson 210u..

Just played +R and -R, region 1 and 2.. plus an RCE title. And I can actually see a better pic!! am happy now :-)

Which DVD - Pioneer 656 or 717?

The local HIFi shop is selling a 717 for 299... seen the 656 for similar money.

Which one would you recommend? Any views??

Thanks

Thomson TV - bright white causes screen to bounce?

Just wondered if any one can help...

I have a 28" Widescreen Thomson. Cable TV box and DVD plugged into it. When there is a bright white (eg explosion), when the next frame is darker.. the screen bounces (looses vertical hold).

Any ideas? Had the TV for 5 months..

Thanks

RE: LG DVD 5253 - VCD HACK!!!

I recently bought a 5253.

Used the burning to CDR region free hack.. wish work fine.

And used the following to get it to play VCD not tried SVCD yet. But VCD 1.0 and 2.0 works!

1. Power on the player with no disc in the drive.
2. Press Pause on the remote control.
3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 4, 7, 2 (the
characters 01 47 should appear on the display) [If your player is a non UK
model, this number will probably be different - don`t worry]
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the
display)
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your
specific model - don`t worry]
5. Press Program, 6, Program, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be
displayed).
6. Press Enter (the display should flash briefly).
7. Press Return.
8. Power the player off and then back on.
9. Play a VCD!

RE: LG 5253 disc hack, problem...

I had this problem too. But then burnt it at a low speed (x4).. and all was ok.
