RE: Any PC Experts out there?

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated! :)

RE: Any PC Experts out there?

Mike,

when the pc is first switched on ( hp Pavilion 750 ). The HDD LED which normally flashes when accessing, comes on permanently, the CD and DVD drive green LED`s flash as normal. The green LED on the monitor goes back to amber and there is no display. It then just sits there with the HDD LED on but nothing happens. No response from Keyboard or mouse. Also it doesn`t appear to access the floppy disk.

The guy that looked at the pc is suggesting an AMD semperon which he says will faster than what I currently have.

RE: Any PC Experts out there?

The PC engineer that came round , swapped out memory, psu, and graphics card. When PC still wouldn`t come up he advised that it was the motherboard.
He suggested replacing the motherboard and getting a different processor ( currently it is a pentium 4, 1.6ghz ) possibly an AMD.
He asked what data I wanted saved from my HDD as he said he`d need to reload XP because the HDD wouldn`t recognise the new motherboard?
Afraid it`s all a bit beyond me!

Any PC Experts out there?

My PC refused to boot up and I got someone in to have a look. :(
They have advised that the Motherboard is at fault. :o
Their recommendation is I get a new motherboard and chipset, and also said that XP would need reloading so a chance of losing data.
If I get a motherboard, chipset and new hard drive. Can I then add the existing drive as a slave and copy any files across to the new HDD?
Will there be any compatability problems or any other pitfalls I should be aware of.
Any recommendations of good chip`s and motherboards.
Thanks in advance. ;)

RE: Replacement Sub Woofer.

Thanks Lee,

I already have a good cable wish I`d seen this one first ( much cheaper :( ).
Thanks for the link to the sub. Will call them up to order.

Cheers,

C.

RE: Replacement Sub Woofer.

Lee,

just back off holiday and catching up with the usual email mountain. Glad to hear you got sorted. Which model sub did you go for and where did you get it from ( any web link you can recommend? ).
Watched a DVD last night and turned the SONY sub off , it has to go this month.

Cheers,

C. :)

RE: Replacement Sub Woofer.

Sounds like a pretty positive resonse, obviously yamaha are better at customer relations than sony so I`d go ahead with the yamaha. Like I mentioned it`s between Mission and Yamaha for me but won`t be getting one until after the hols. If you do go ahead can you let me know what your verdict is?
Cheers.
C ;)

RE: Replacement Sub Woofer.

Lee,

haven`t had a chance to listen to any subs yet. Mission are looking a good bet as prices seem reasonable and will also try to get a listen to the Yamaha mentioned as it`s available around £115 on the net. Hope to visit a few Hifi dealers for a listen when I`m on holiday next week.
Anything has got to be better than the sub supplied by Sony with the HTDDW750 surround system. They don`t even have it available to buy as a standalone. Have mailed Sony UK but they have been totally useless. All they keep repeating is take the subwoofer into an authorised repair centre. Have done this twice and got the messsage that sony components are cheap rubbish. One thing I know is I`ll stay clear of Sony from now on.

RE: King of the Hill.

I`ve e-mailed FOX directly to see if I can get any details.
Anything positive I`ll let you know.

King of the Hill.

I`ve noticed that both the first and second series of `King of the Hill` are available from the US. Does anyone know if there are plans to release it in Region 2 format?

If not looks like I`ll have to get it from play.usa. >:(

RE: Replacement Sub Woofer.

Thanks for the info and links. I`ll have to try to get out to a hifi shop and listen to a few. Looks like the Yamaha and the Mission models may fit the bill.

RE: Home cinema problem

They said that under warranty they could only replace like for like >:( .
Needless to say SONY are no longer my preferred supplier. The moral of the story is you only get what you pay for. I`m now looking to buy a new sub that won`t have background hum. I suppose that reinforces the ideal of buying seperates.

Replacement Sub Woofer.

Following on from the thread with sub woofer problems on SONY HTDDW750. Can anyone recommend a good replacement sub woofer that is in the £150 ish price bracket? :/

RE: Home cinema problem

I`ve also got a Sony HTDDW750 that I bought last October. The sub woofer has exactly the same problem as described. I`ve had it checked out at two Sony approved repair centres. The first of which said there was no problem end of story. The second place I took it to admitted there was a definite hum that shouldn`t be there. They even replaced the transformer but this made no difference. The guy told me that basically the transformer in the sub was very cheap and was typical of the poor components that SONY use. I am now looking to buy another Sub Woofer as the humming in the background drives me mad and spoils the whole `Home Cinema` experience! >:(

RE: Any Sub-Woofer Guru`s Out There?

Thanks for the feedback guys ( no pun intended ). Since my posting I have taken the sub woofer into another room and plugged it into another wall socket away from any other electrical equipment . Guess what? The hum is still there. Also if you turn the volume up and tap on the input you can get a very good morse code effect?
Does this point to the problem being the sub woofer rather than cables / routing?
Colin.

Any Sub-Woofer Guru`s Out There?

I bought a Sony HTDDW750 home theatre package last week to upgrade my current system and I`m very impressed. However when I turn on the Sub-woofer there is an immeadiate humming sound that comes from the sub-woofer. Once the receiver or DVD are up and running you can`t hear the humming sound. Can anyone tell me whether the sub-woofer should be totally silent when switched on or is a slight hum acceptable?
I bought the system from Digital Point and on contacting them was told there wasn`t a problem. On visiting a Sony Centre today they told me there should be no noise on switch on?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Colin.

RE: Can you save my digital photos?

Looked through all the knowledge base stuff. At the bottom it says you can lose data so wanted to get the photos off the drive first.
Thanks for the input anyway.

Can you save my digital photos?

Last week I powered on my HP Pavillion 750 to be greeted with a blue screen bearing the message "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"
Technical Information:
*** STOP : 0X000000ED.
I`ve looked at the HP and Microsoft sites for info and there`s plenty there.
However my main concern is to save my digital photographs.
My plan is to install another hard drive as a master and use the damaged drive as a slave. Then I hope to copy my photos across to the new `Master` drive.
Does anyone out there know if this will work or is there a better option. I really want to save my photos before attempting any drive repair functions.

Cheers.

Colin.

RE: Toshiba220e Multi or Not?

Thanks John. I may just do that.

The Name Of The Rose.

Saw this film on Play the other month. Now there is no sign of it anywhere? Does anyone know why it is apparently no longer available?

RE: Toshiba220e Multi or Not?

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I picked up a Tosh multi region from Richer Sounds. Had no choice in the matter as apparently no region 2 machines in stock. Haven`t tried a region 1 disc yet but the picture quality is excellent on R2.
Now I need a suitable surround package. Still considering the Sony HTBE1 ( the missus likes the look of it, nice and neat ). However open to any suggestions.

RE: Toshiba220e Multi or Not?

Thanks for the feedback. Where can I pick it up for £134.99?

Toshiba220e Multi or Not?

I have been looking for a good DVD player / Home cinema system.
Most out of the box packages I`ve seen don`t have a scart connection.
From what I`ve picked up off the message boards SCART seems to be the best type of connection?
I am now looking at buying just the DVD player first and upgrading later.
I`ve seen the Tosh 220 for around £120 region 2 and £140 multi region.
Is this a good player to build a system around and is it worthwhile getting a multi region player?
Also any idea if the Sony HTBE1 is a good surround solution?
Any help most appreciated.

Region 2 & 4 are they the same.?

I`ve noticed recently on several discs that they show as compatible with both Region 2 and Region 4.
Does this mean that discs from Australia will play on Region 2 players that are not multi-region?
I`m slightly confused by this. Any help would be welcome.

New Toshiba

I`ve seen a new Toshiba home cinema system on the web but can`t find it on the Toshiba site?
The model is the SD-42HK.
Anyone know if we can get it in the UK and if it`s any good. I`m looking to buy a complete system and having had Toshiba products over the years would like to stick with them.
Any help much appreciated.
