RE: Any point in me buying a DVD player?

YES.

When I bought my first DVD player I only had a 25" mono TV. Even with a mono TV you can still appreciate the superb picture quality, the extra features on DVD`s (deleted scenes, commentries etc.), the ability to jump to any scene in the film.

As and when you can upgrade to DD 5.1/DTS amp. I`ve now got a DTS amp and 32" widescreen TV and by far the biggest improvement was getting the amp.

Any way welcome to the wonderful world of DVD (your credit cards worst nigtmare, so many bargains so little money).

RE: Terminator 2 and Terminator - region 1 or 2

The R1 release of Terminator won`t be until September 2001 (don`t know exact date) as someone else owns the rights to Terminator at present. This deal runs out September time, so the new SE edition can`t be released til the present deal expires.

Terminator SE is also coming out in R4 on 7.3.01, a couple of weeks earlier than R2. It`s supposed to have the same features plus it`s PAL. I`ve got mine on order from www.ezydvd.com.au/ as they are about £2 cheaper than amazon.co.uk, and that includes delivery.

As for Terminator 2 SE I would go for the R1 release as the R2 release doesn`t have the 3 versions (don`t quote me on that, but that is what I have heard). I think all the deleted scenes are included but not available in a `seamless branching` version of the film. I`ve got the R1 release and it works fine on my Wharfedale

Hope this helps.

RE: Wharfdale 750 DTS Sound Problem

I`ve got an early 750, which now has the new firmware chip in. I`ve also got a Sony 930 amp which I connected using an optical lead. I`ve had no problems with any DTS disks before or after the new firmware chip.

From what I`ve read on this site and on others all Wharfdales will output a DTS signal.

Hope this helps

RE: Tosh 32WD98 Tv - problems anyone?

I`ve got a 32WD98 TV which i`ve had for 5 months now. I`ve never had the sound problems you mention.
The teletext problem i`ve not really noticed either as I don`t use it that much, I had noticied sometimes it doesn`t load the page properly and I always retyped the page number ans it`s been ok.
Playing back a videotape I have noticed very occasionly the channel name appear at the bottom of the screen for a second or two, but this is rare, certainly not every 5-10 minutes.

Overall I`m very pleased with this TV, my only problem is that the picture keeps defaultin to autosize when I turn the channels over and when I fast forward through adverts when watching video`s even when it was set on wide. Have you come accross this? Do you know how to stop this?

Hope this helps

Fast delivery

I`ve just received Disney`s Dinosaur in the post this morning from Play247, now thats service. Just hope it plays OK, as there have been a few problems with Disney discs lately.

RE: Any good region 4 sites

Twice from DVD Express, the only times I orderd from them, so I won`t be going back there.

Just before Christmas Amazon. I have been using them for well over a year and haven`t any problems. I will probably order from them again if and when the exchange rate gets a lot better.

Any good region 4 sites

Having been stung for the third time by customs from region 1 sites, and the poor exchange rate I have decided to venture forth into pastures new!!

So can anyone recommend some good region 4 sites.

RE: What TV?

I`ve just bought an ex-display Toshiba 32WD98B from John Lewis for £960, with a 5 year guarantee. I bought for the picture not the Dolby Digital sound as I already had a Sony 930 amp. So far i`ve been very pleased with it.

Reviews can help you narrow down the choice but at the end of the day your the one who has to live with it so make sure you audition the tv`s that interested you. Also play around with the settings because some of tv`s are really badly set up and changing this can make a huge difference (i`ve yet to go into a shop and see the Toshiba set up properly).

The other tv`s that caught my eye were the Panasonic`s the main problem for me was that they only had 2 scarts.

I was told that John Lewis didn`t match internet prices but then again they weren`t that much more and plus the 5 year guarantee more then made up the difference, still a lot cheaper than Dixon`s, Curreys etc... I don`t think they do interest free cedit though but their interset rate is very very good.

Hope this helps

RE: Cheapest Region one website!

I`ve just seen the forum on the Home Cinema Choice site and everyone seems to think it`s to good to be true. It looks as though one or two might try it so keep an eye out.

Another thing that was raised was how can a company import and resell US goods from a UK based company as it is illegal.

I think caution is advised, but I would to like to hear if anyone has had any success with them.

RE: (Big Brother) Region 1 DVD Imports

My last 2 orders from America have ended up at customs. They charge VAT and an import duty and then the post office charge an extra handling fee.

So my lovely cheap 40% off pre-order bargins got very expensive.

I have heard that custums are catching more and more DVD imports. I don`t know whether importing from certain company`s are more likely to end up at customs as my last 2 orders were with Express.com and I`ve always used Amazon.com before that without any problems.

Has any one else had any problems?

RE: Wharfedale 750 + Videologic Digitheatre DTS

I have a Wharfedale & a Sony STRDB930 dts reciever. I`ve had no problems with region 1 dts DVD`s (Lethal Weapon 1, 2 & 3, Saving Private Ryan and others all work fine).

I`ve connected the two up with an optical lead and have no problems with dts or Dolby Digital.

RE: R2 Jaws problem with Wharfedale

I`ve got a Wharfedale which I bought in February. I have just got a R1 Jaws `DTS` version. I haven`t had a chance to watch the film yet, but after seeing that there were some problems with the disc I had a look at it last night and I can access all the menus and it all seems to work ok.

Hope this helps
