RE: U2 Elevation tour live in Boston
I can tell you why it was not released in widescreen because I work with a lot of the cameramen and the director who shot it.
Basically it was a mainly British technical crew (director, cams etc,) who expected to shoot it in widescreen when they got there. However due to admin cock up when they arrived equipment which they presumed to be in widescreen (as standard in UK) was only 4:3, it was too late and too costly to change it all especially as "streets have no name" had to go out live during the nba playoff final that evening, so reluctantly they all had to shoot it in 4:3.
So now you know,
It still looks fantastic despite this, as the director is probably the best for music concerts in the world at the moment, I work with him quite a bit and he is excellent. In fact most of the concert dvds which came out at christmas were done by him, e.g. Corrs In London, Madonna: drowned world live, Westlife Live, Robbie at the Albert etc
RE: WH Smith Sale
If you buy this months Empire magazine there ar a whole load of discount vouchers including approx six for £2 off any DVD which unlike CDs (which must be over £9.99) have no price restrictions, therefore where they are selling the warner titles eg True Romance, Goodfellas for £7.99 like everyone else you can pick them up for £5.99 which so far I haven`t seen cheaper anywhere.
RE: Superman 1+2 Box set
Most big chains seem to be selling it at £24.99. Personally I went to WHSmiths and using their buy one get one half price bought the boxset plus The Simpsons Season 1 for a total of £42.49 plus got my clubcard points.
(By my calculations if you were happy to buy superman at £25 then Simpsons R2 works out even cheaper than Simpsons R1 even at Play 24/7).
RE: £5 Bargains at EzyDVD
Are these versions anamorphic, letterboxed or 4:3?
RE: Kubrick box set. What`s the best price?
Also bear in mind if you buy from australia I don`t think Dr Strangelove is included in their boxset.
RE: Five Star Collection`s
Back to the original question, The Sound Of Music is also a Five Star collection. Also there are heavy rumours of forthcoming Speed and True Lies five starrers.
RE: Conspiracy Theory for £7.99
Mine also had these plus The Right Stuff and Dirty Harry for £7.99
Currys 2 for £22 including silver MIB
Visited a currys superstore at Staples Corner (NW London) yesterday and they are running the standard 2 warner/columbia titles for £22 the one that is 2 for £25 about everywhere else (Three Kings, Deep Blue Sea, The Perfect Storm, Erin Brockovich, Jurassic Park, Mask Of Zorro, Vampires, Kevin and Perry etc) plus included on their list was Men In Black with no mention of which version but the only one they had in stock was the silver two disc limited edition, I asked and the dull shop assistant didn`t even realise there were two versions.
RE: Snow white and the seven dwarfs and free dvd
Played around on the US disney site, and using the coupon code WETHANKYOU (10% discount) got a basic price of $17.99 for th 2 disc Snow White, free DVD sent at same time, four lithographs and collectable pin. A bargain if you live in the US where shipping is $4.95 per address plus $0.95 per item,
BUT to UK postage is $21.95 per address plus $5.95 per item resulting in a grand total of $45.89 or approx £33.50.
Still good value but I`m sure over here you could buy them individually in offers for a cheaper total price.
Hope this helps.
Rereleased Scream, Anamorphic?
I saw the scream films are part of Virgin`s new 2 for £25 deal and have been thinking of getting them for a while but are the re-release anamorphic or not? I know in the R2 boxset Scream 1 is non-anamorphic but have read that Scream 1 on its own is anamorphic.
I am confused, so is anybody able to confirm or deny these allegations please.
