Spate of HMV misprices - anybody else?

Mark Oates (Reviewer) posted this on Thursday, 31st May 2007, 18:00

Usually HMV are exceptionally good for prices, but over the last couple of weeks I`ve placed three orders for TV box sets with them and all three have been cancelled by HMV CS as mispriced items. In the cancellation email they quote the T&Cs, ending with the line:

Quote:
We are therefore under no legal obligation to sell the item to you at the incorrect price and have therefore cancelled your order.

We would like to stress that this is a very unusual circumstance at HMV and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

It`s very unusual for a company with HMV`s track record to make such a hash of things - three orders (admittedly two were Hustle Series One and Two) out of their entire catalogue to be cancelled as misprices makes you wonder how many titles were similarly affected.

I wonder if they`re having supplier problems. Anybody else had a similar experience recently?

UPDATE:

This is weird. HMV have actually honoured one of the orders - Hustle Series 2 - and they`ve charged the "misprice" of £8.99. When I placed the orders, that one was available for dispatch "within 24hrs" where the others were available in "3-5 days". I think their suppliers have changed the price on them without warning rather than this being a website mistake.

Now the question is, does HMV deal with a middle-man (which then deals with the Studios), or do they deal direct with the Studios and their replication centres? If there`s a middle-man involved, that makes more sense for titles from different studios suddenly changing prices than for Sony, Buena Vista and Warners to independently decide they`re not getting enough dosh for their product.

Unless this is part of the CD-WOW business and the Studios are flexing their muscles to show retailers who`s boss.
